Totally. I've sold hundreds of copies of The Ink That Bleeds, which makes assertions about the experience of immersion in journaling game play. Not one person has said, "Huh, that's different, I wonder if it's also true of LARP, or traditionally gamemastered games."

I do think a lot of the indie ttrpg scene as it exists is built out of a pretty specific understanding of what an RPG is based on effectively the OSR concept of what a ttrpg is, and as a result a lot of games just go by without ever being really seen by the scene at large

This is why I have zero patience for people who never shut up about the imaginary crime wave.

Seeing a homeless encampment is sad, unsettling, even disturbing. But you are not in danger, and what you're feeling isn't real fear.
