Cycle ride to Hsai Lai Buddhist temple to meetup with a group ride. Ended up turning into a double metric century. Rode south across the LA, Rio Hondo and San Gabriel rivers, Whittier Narrows from Marvin Braude bike trail.

This last weekend I did a solo bike ride up Highway 39 towards Crystal Lake in Asuza. It’s a 2 lane road with minimal shoulder. Whenever I ride this route, I’m out of the shoulder because of the rock. If only there was someone who’d tidy this up.

Bicycle ride up Glendora Mountain Road

1st time on GMR. My favorite climb so far.

I’m embarrassed to say I sometimes get a small sense of satisfaction after passing the same car multiple times— particularly when it’s one of those that treats the lights like a drag race.

Positive:
Innovative, first principals engineering, disrupt status quo

Negative:
Solution in search of a problem, brutality over subtle beauty, militarization of everyday life, ego made metal, innovation for innovations sake, tech-driven aesthetic, trolling everyone’s 3 year old’s car drawings.

I think there is some truth, but statistically I have to defend mediocrity— it is the average.

Perhaps:

“White supremacy is often fueled by insecurity about not being exceptional”

But maybe

“White supremacy is often fueled by insecurity about losing racial privilege and economic stability.”

I once attempted to match my ports on all my lights to be USB-C. But I tend to lose my lights and usually grab an available replacement.

Oh, I didn’t even know about the Arroyo Seco Bike Path. I’m so used to jumping over to Figueroa from San Pascual from Arroyo Blvd. Will check that out.

I went on an All Clubs ride last week. It was great being in a big group of a hundred cyclists that all ride at a road bike speed. To the Korean Friendship Temple in San Pedro the group stuck together, on the way back-like any group ride- we were more spread out.

Escaping LA, I rode the Palm Desert. The cities had flat, quiet roads, quirky golf cart/bike lanes, and raised paths that brought childlike joy.

The climb out of Coachella Valley had no such niceties— instead a 50mph, 2-lane road with a soft sand shoulder.

I agree to their functionality as they politely prevent the casual wandering of cars into biking spaces in a way that lines alone do not. Of the choices: flex sticks, skinny posts or thick bollards, I prefer these because of their lower injury to biker if we need to escape the lane quickly.

Biking the pacific coast is a wonderful adventure once out of the cities.
