Say NO to Mandatory E-Bike License Plates and Registrations - Bike East Bay Tell the state legislature that increased regulation on legal e-bikes is counter-productive to traffic safety, sustainability, and equity goals.

Help stop the misguided attempt to license bikes in CA, it will only lead to making it more difficult for people to adopt bikes. We don’t need new laws, we need the existing classifications of e-bikes to be properly enforced.

The same guys using junk science to say protected bike lanes are dangerous for people biking told the mom who lost her daughter and other supporters that the red light cameras they’re requesting will not prevent future crashes because of sunsets and because they say so.

Seems deliveries could be accommodated on perpendicular streets or, at worst, just remove / replace bollards for one lane up 5th for “authorized vehicles only”

During discussions about building the downtown mobility plan bikeways with curb-separation (instead of flexposts) I recall city staff mention it is very difficult to do subgrade work on streets downtown due to basements. Might be a reason retractable bollards weren’t used.

Agreed. There hasn’t been a particularly coordinated or concerted pushback, and it’s leading the door open for misunderstanding and hampered ebike adoption. We are trying to make our voice heard on the topic, but there’s so much more to be done.

In 2024 Oakland implemented a 4 car lane to 1 car lane road diet on 13th St in Downtown using only paint. It’s not perfect but this relatively cheap change has helped a lot w speeding.

The perpendicular Webster corridor is the same width & needs a similar update ASAP.

*the redesign reduces the total parking! Costing at least $4M, this design hasn’t even been installed for a year, hasn’t been evaluated, and there is no justification for removing it. Doing so will reduce the number of people biking, make the road more dangerous, and it’s just incredibly petty.

Santa Fe Drive in Encinitas, CA has protected bikeways and angled parking with high visibility crosswalk.
