I finally made it to the later seasons of The Walking Dead and while I am not happy they keep killing my favorite characters, eventually Samantha Morton shows up in an ashy bald cap and I’m…I’m here for it.

I also need all context before watching Daryl’s spin-off.

Open antique book showing the engraved frontispiece portrait of Phillis Wheatley on the left page. The right page reads: β€œMEMOIR AND POEMS OF PHILLIS WHEATLEY, A NATIVE AFRICAN AND A SLAVE. ALSO, POEMS BY A SLAVE. THIRD EDITION. Oval portrait engraving of Phillis Wheatley, a young Black woman, seated at a writing desk in profile. She wears a simple 18th-century dress with white neckerchief and cap, thoughtfully touching her chin with one hand while holding a quill pen over paper with the other. An inkwell and small book rest on the table. Surrounding the oval is the caption: β€œPHILLIS WHEATLEY, NEGRO SERVANT TO MR. JOHN WHEATLEY, OF BOSTON.”

Phillis Wheatley, first published African-American female poet, died #OTD in 1784.

Born in W. Africa, sold into slavery at 7 & one of the best-known poets in 18th-century America. Her achievements were a catalyst for the fledgling antislavery movement.
