Just came through an extreme weather event in #NewZealand. 145 km winds in the low country and over 200 kph in the Southern Alps. #Christchurch where I live we had an astonishing near miss with high winds hitting north and south. #wind #weather #lucky #storm

Yes. MIS4 glaciation is larger than MIS 3-2 in the southern part of South Island. Further North t is present in stratigraphic sections in some Canterbury valleys but MIS 4 is inside MIS3/2 limits and therefore not preserved as moraines. See Quaternary Science Reviews. 206, 1-20. (2019).

What a tragic decision to cut core disciplines. I can't speak about others in detail but #Geology at the University of #Leicester gave New Zealand Jim Cole. A brilliant contributor to our understanding of our volcanoes and an even better person. No chance of this happening again.

The Ashburton Lakes (Hakatere) region is a high altitude basin between the Rangitata and Rakaia Rivers, Canterbury, New Zealand. It was heavily glaciated as the kame terraces (deposits of a river running along the flank of a #glacier) show. #geomorphology #photo #geology #geography #Aotearoa
