Water ions were created from Silicates and Solar protons during the Deep Impact experiment following the vertical electrostatic field while the mechanical impact was at a shallow angle and wasn't expected to cause this. Explained in this 15min video: youtu.be/qcNcGTerTfw?...

US to rewrite its past national climate reports US President Donald Trump's administration is revising past editions of the nation's premier climate report -- its latest move to undermine the scientific consensus on human-caused global warming.

The Trump administration has announced that the US will rewrite past climate reports, in a clear attempt to erase scientific history and undermine the consensus on human-caused climate change.

I am horrified. If you use US material, download all old reports you use. The record will be erased. Even that might not save you: every report sourced from the US will now have to be suspected of politicised manipulation and will in the future the same credibility as Iran’s human rights reports

🛫 FPV Flying Update 🛬
In my never ending quest for lighter FPV gear, I found this li'le 3 gram combination camera/video transmitter.
I can make it even lighter by using a smaller camera & shortening the wires to the VTX.
I got two for a pair of small outdoor FPV planes so I can do formation flying!🧑‍✈️

The image shows Saturn’s rings from their unlit side, where the light and dark areas are reversed compared to a typical view. The rings appear as concentric bands of light and dark gray, with the central B-ring looking darker than the brighter surrounding rings. The background is black space, with Saturn’s large, dark shadow on the right. At the top left, the moon Tethys is a faint, small bright dot. The image feels ethereal, with sharp contrasts between the rings and space.

This spectacular image, resembling a photographic negative of a front view, features Saturn's magnificent ring system from the unlit side of the rings, that is, the side not in direct sunlight.

Close Call 🌌

Unbeknownst to me, the icy mound where I set up my tripod was slowly melting away throughout the course of this sequence. That meant the frame shifted a little during every exposure, leaving small gaps in a lot of the star trails due to realignment artifacts.

Bird migration forecasts show predicted nocturnal migration 3 hours after local sunset and are updated every 6 hours. These forecasts come from models trained on the last 23 years of bird movements in the atmosphere as detected by the US NEXRAD weather surveillance radar network. In these models we use the Global Forecasting System (GFS) to predict suitable conditions for migration occurring three hours after local sunset. These maps also show precipitation forecasts (outlined and shown in grayscale). Note, areas forecast to experience precipitation and bird migration may overlap, and predictions for migration intensity may be highly variable in these locations. Birds migrate at night to avoid predators, to navigate using celestial cues, and to benefit from cooler temperatures and calmer air. This BirdCast migration forecast map shows predicted nocturnal migration 3 hours after local sunset and is updated every 6 hours. (See alt text.)

My goto is to ask LLMs how many states have R in their name. They always fail. GPT 5 included Indiana, Illinois, and Texas in its list. It then asked me if I wanted an alphabetical highlighted map. Sure, why not.

A colleague noticed this Facebook post about a massive rockfall in the Blue Mountains, so I looked at the overnight records to see if it was visible. The closest station was 30km away, and a spike in the spectrogram at 3:05am had me check other nearby stations, which all rumbled for about a minute.
