I'm enjoying the Batman comics at the moment but in general DC seems to lurch from one crossover event to the next every few years. It can't be easy for creators to build anything long standing when changes to the status quo are constantly happening.

This is true.

Speculation abounds about a huge object on its way to our solar system. What is it? I made this prediction ten years ago for Aces Weekly. 😄

I thought I'd used it in one of the strips but I'm not sure now.

I can't remember when I extended the name but it simply occurred to me one day that it'd be funnier to retcon it and add the Doobrey. ("Doobrey" being a Midlands equivalent of "whatsit" or "thingamajig".) So his mum's maiden name would have been Doobrey and he just added that to Smiff.
