This is one of the issues London Labour insiders raised with me in this piece on Labour & London β Labour is taking the votes of the capital for granted, and is about to impose major local government austerity on councils who were hard hit first time round.

For a decade, Farage has largely got what he wanted, and none of it has worked. Brexit has been a deadweight, dragging down the UKβs already sluggish growth. The vaunted points-based immigration system didnβt reduce numbers, because the UK has disastrous skills shortages. Johnsonβs Brexit deal fuelled the small boats crisis that Farage seized upon to get to his current political popularity. Farage has danced around any kind of responsibility for the consequences of his actions, or for his own inability to understand how policy on immigration β his number one issue β actually works.
Where @thenewworldmag.bsky.social leadsβ¦back in August, we wrote about how many of the immigration issues Nigel Farage complains about were the result of policies he advocated. Now both Ed Davey *and* Keir Starmer are saying the same.

Is there really much gain for Labour in getting rid of one dour, bespectacled white man with little of interest to say on Brexit, and replacing him with another?

Ta-Nehasi Coates is doing a lot of things with this essay, but one of the most important is fearlessly using examples of anti-trans hate to describe Charlie Kirk's politics.
The contrast between his choices and those of other writers for major legacy outlets is revealing.
