My new take on The Rock’s acting career is that it failed when he didn’t realize that him singing Shake It Off was exactly the sort of thing he should embrace.

That makes sense to me, especially as a distinct category compared to western cartoons. It also does draw a bit more from Chinese culture than Japanese, which would probably mean it would not qualify on that ground.

Definitely has some inspiration/similarities though, so not a surprising comp.

It does feel like it was made to attract anime fans/be something that could lead people to trying anime though.

The more I think about it, the less and less it has anything that really connects it to anime. Other than having a general inspiration from a mix of East Asian/Indigenous cultures, it’s not really connected to the style/tropes of the genre in any real way when I consider it.

It’s always interesting how the “don’t insult your opponents if you want to win elections” people ignore that 2 out of the last 3 elections were won by a guy defined by insulting everybody, even his own supporters.

My favorite post on LinkedIn has become the “I’ve figured out the way to disrupt education and nobody else has”, and it’s paying someone a ton to meet with your student once to twice a week to either tutor them or provide college guidance. Oh, and they have an AI say they should do it.

My dentist said I needed to come back for something, and I almost asked if I could just get rid of my teeth so I’d never have to again.

Education research feels like repeatedly asking the question “what do we need to help students”, getting the answer “money/resources”, and then watching as that is just ignored.

I feel like it’s 1/2 cozy, 1/4 funny introvert humor, 1/4 adventure (that’s in the way of the next “why are people around me” but).

I increasingly wonder how to do contract/consulting work for research. Having a full time job should mean no stress for finances, but that seems not the case….

Actually got caught up rewatching this. I now have two or three pause points when I have it in the background just because I’m a parent now and wasn’t in the theatre when it came out.

That is one thing I’m not a fan of. Maybe it makes shields better as you can choose units with them and keep the shield? But also seems like it nerfs the value of small health units getting shields.

The indirect damage addition is what I’m now curious about. The ping damage is about to get out of control.

I believe it’s been confirmed by people from them that is how it works. I think the counterbalance is supposed to be that 1) you can play as unit and now upgrade counters are not useable, and 2) upgrade removal focus makes other strategies better. Hopefully a big meta!

I really need to get some games in soon. I have my Cad Green deck from set 2 I’ve been modifying and want to see how it does anymore.

Added these to my tbr on the strength of the covers alone, any additional information is just icing on top.

1) The Sonic movie is surprisingly fun to watch and works well for background while researching.
2) I now have to write a semi-structured interview question set, and I'm not 100% if I remember how to do so.
