The AK paint pen is working a treat for labelling the bottom of unit bases. Previously I’ve used white fine liner that rubbed right off

While I’m sure something fantasy or sci-fi will win (it’s a numbers game after all). I’ve put in a forlorn vote for plastic Austrian-Hungarians to compliment their World War 1 range.

It’s great when Wargames Atlantic fills in holes for less games historical periods!

EMPRESS RUSSIAN CIVIL WAR. I have always had an interest in the Russian Civil War and as we have a lot of figures and vehicles across the ranges that work for the conflict its

Start of a passion project! Ukrainian infantry for the β€˜Russian’ Civil War.

Gorgeous figures by @hicksy.bsky.social , lucky to find his sculpts for such an obscure topic!

Fresh from the Osprey Sale. A good example of β€˜I wish Wargames Atlantic would make plastic Austrian-Hungarians’!

Been a while since I painted something small, so back to Epic Pike and Shotte for Phillip Skippon’s Regiment of Foot!

Officers, PIAT team and 2” mortar to complete the core British Platoon

Yes tight turn is very handy. We’ve usually split RAF to half hurricanes half spitfires. I enjoy bomber missions more too because it forces the defender to focus the bombers but risk themselves to escort fighters

They do have a copy of each card at the back of compendium so can print your own off from there. I do know what you mean though, I’ve been put off of games where you need to make or buy extra cards. DMH have the best approach with a core deck and then 4 extra cards for each gang.

Have you played since the Wing Commander Compendium? That has a massive list of unit profiles, and I think some slight rebalancing.

Though on balance we only play historical match ups and don’t bother with points values, I know others like a more β€˜matched play’ approach.

To carry on

I don’t see Cruel Seas and Blood Red Skies (neither of which have had many recent releases) to be dead/dropped, I think that it gets to a point where a game doesn’t need more development/scenarios by the rules designer?

Something I have a few thoughts on at least.

The timing was odd for certain, shoved in just before the Bolt Action V3 buildup. And does suffer a bit from needing a lot of gubbins.

I don’t think it’ll be dropped… just more that it’s done? I wouldn’t really expect them to keep releasing for it unless it’s a big hit.

I’ll disagree over AP there actually! With the new supplement so most tanks have a stat line I think there’s a small but solid community for AP.

I also think it’s an unusual situation where the Warlord set is less arcadey than the TFL one, so I can see the appeal for real tank vs tank combat fans

I think DMH is beating What A Cowboy. They are growing year to year with more plastic kits, and seem to have more success targeting the wider tabletop gaming crowd.

It’s not to say that one ruleset is better than another. And having a choice is never a bad thing.

Fantastic day at the RE Play show at the Royal engineers museum. I was lucky enough to play in a huge battle of Hastings.

I commanded the right flank of the Anglo-Saxons. Might have committed the classic blunder of charging down the hill but the flank held and we carried the day!

For painted 40k collections I’ve seen a considerable amount sell on Facebook, and of that some have been collected which is handy for a whole army job lot.

Didn’t think of that. Certainly makes for an interesting decision on whether to adapt a set for the β€œRussian” Civil War or to write my own. There’s a lot more structure to a BEF platoon in August 1918 than a band of Ukrainian Nationalists!

Does anyone else feel like 2025 has been a year chock full of new rulesets? Particularly Medieval and WW1…

Just seen that Gripping Beast have come out with/are supporting a new WW1 game, which like many others are focused on the 100 days Offensive

Yes I am! There’s a great Goonhammer article about all the ranges, I think Scarab is the only range that you can get in the UK at the moment.

Will be starting with some Empress Russians and Ukrainians first

Ah thank you. There is a dearth of AH models I’ve found, with the added bonus of Brigade’s Range not having a UK distributor (and doubt that will change with the tariff situation)

A distant wish would be that Wargames Atlantic come up with a plastic set, which would be perfect for conversions.

Interesting, will pick this up at some point as the post 1918 conflicts are an area of massive interest. Glad osprey have published a few books on this area in recent years.

Out of interest, where are your Austro-Hungarians from? Looking for some good models for Sich Rifleman
