Researchers led by Dr. Lemmond sequenced their DNA, and found something very interesting; what we thought was a European species wasnβt European at all!! It was a completely new species, uniquely adapted to PNW forests.

How do you discover a new species? Sometimes it starts in an herbarium cabinet. In this case, the OSC truffle collection (the largest in the world!!) helped rewrite the story of one of the PNWs most prized fungi, the Oregon Black Truffle.
