Very strong argument for institutions in financial peril to pivot, completely, from current model and read and publish deals to diamond open access as only model. The world would not stop spinning on its axis.

There is so much to be disappointed about in this story--from the institutional response to Miles Hewstone himself. We still have a lot of work to do to make academic environments inclusive spaces where everyone can thrive, and where harassers are held accountable.

Since I started looking at the reporting quality of animal research in the neurosciences (and in now way claiming causality!) - reporting of eg randomisation and blinding has pretty much doubled - so gradual improvement is happening all the time

There is always a challenge - speaking as a meta-scientist - to describe aspects of the research process which need to be improved, while not suggesting or implying we should rip it all up and start again.

ICASR and DESTINY are holding a meeting in July! If you're interested in automation in evidence synthesis then do take a look - in person and online options available :)

My editorial on how journals can earn trust.

We often use journal names as proxies for quality. This is bad bc it’s not valid. But it could be. Editors could make journal name a valid signal. And we could place value on journals that show us how they do that.
