PAEMST is not just a recognition—it’s a national platform that amplifies teacher voice, builds community, and affirms the belief that great teaching matters.

This award has meant so much to educators like me who work every day to make STEM accessible and meaningful for all students—especially those who are neurodivergent or historically excluded from science classrooms.

As a recipient of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST), I am deeply saddened by the announcement that the NSF will pause the PAEMST program effective July 2025, with no applications accepted for 2026 & submitted 2025 nominations no longer considered.

For 15 years, I’ve worked to make science inclusive, engaging, and empowering in Hillsborough. #PAEMST celebrates teachers who do just that and helps us keep doing it. Don’t let this vital program disappear. Restore funding now.

Happy Thanksgiving! I’ve always loved the Macy’s Parade, but my excitement grew 10 years ago when a student with autism shared every detail with me. To this day, he emails me and two other teachers yearly updates about the lineup. His passion is contagious and a true joy to witness. 🦃🎈 #Thankful

The best part of these crazy half day before holidays is learning more about our students & their culture. Not everyone celebrates the same way. Today my student who moved to the US from Colombia shared her family enjoys making a plantain side dish(both raw and sweet yellow one) #EduSky #DaybeforeTG

We used a card sort and I like the digital card sort I created during Covid because this makes each student to complete on their own and have a copy in their google classroom

We began trends of the PT with “show everything you know about Li, Na & K followed by Alkali metal in water phenomena.
Besides white boarding before each trends, a kinesthetic on coulombic force, I like the use of Gizmos this year. It’s just one more way to present and visuals help some(1/2)

I like Google forms for retrieval practice. It self grades and I like adding videos and link in the answer feedback for extra clarity.
I also like do now and exit tickets, where I just highlight what’s wrong and have Ss check the answer key the following day to add the missed info.

Agreed 💯 tracking is a big problem.

Do you think there should be leveled classes? Should there be Chemistry on level for STEM & non STEM students?

We need more educators such as you who advocate for everyone! My daughter is taking AP C this year, there are 6 girls in her section. Around 20 are taking AP C overall in their HS.

We have one girl taking AP physics C in our school this year. 😔
