(Before someone comes at me being like "what about indigenous people?" Fuck off. I'm not talking about indigenous people. Very very very few hunters, globally, are indigenous people. And I bet if that's your go-to, then you only care about indigenous people when a vegan is talking)

I don't know why people think saying "well I eat hunted meat" is a flex to vegans. Sure, I guess it's better that said animal didn't spend their life in institutional cruelty. But you are putting an animal through the most terrifying situation possible and doing it for fun. Like that's fucked, guy.

Palestine Action have WON their judicial review in the High Court!
A massive victory for free speech, freedom of association and the right to protest.
A massive defeat for the draconian attempts by Keir Starmer's government to curtail our fundamental rights.

I mean: it's genuinely my favourite book and I do think that there's a lot of conversations to be had in terms of how you interpret it. But every 30th anniversary article I read isn't about the interpretation, it's about the *mythos*. Deeply deeply annoying.

I haven't met anyone who's read it who embodies the litbro stereotype the media thinks exists, and the "it's so hard" thing reads like an annoying self-aggrandising lie. It's stoner Hamlet. It's a book. If you don't struggle with general literacy you can read it, and if interests you, you should.

I was invested in the plot, the characters, and the language. The dynamics of reading it keeps me more entertained than a lot of linear classics. It's the modern era so it's easy to understand the implications without esoteric knowledge about how high society worked in the Victorian era or whatnot

Idk I've never finished Pride and Prejudice. I've given up on Anna Karenina three times. I still am telling myself I'm gonna pick up book 5 of In Search of Lost Time. But Infinite Jest? For a gal with ADHD, it's kinda an ideal book.

Is it hard? I don't know. It's nonlinear. There are bits that are boring. Some bits contradict each other. Mostly though it's just long?

I'm so fucking annoyed at every article about Infinite Jest. Guys, for real: it's just a book.

This is bleak: Jes Staley, currently CEO of Barclays, reassuring Epstein that popular revolt against financial elites is unlikely because capitalism and pop culture have defanged social movements, leaving people more invested in consumption than justice.

Thank you so much for everyone who shared this. We got about 10 new patrons, which is huge. We're still down this month (as we were the previous two months) but getting so many patrons at once hopefully means our budget won't decrease again next month. I'm really grateful.

If restricted by finances then beans and lentils are great. They're dirt cheap in most places, especially if you buy them dry, and they're really versatile. My "I can't function" meal is making chilli with canned tomatoes, canned beans, and hot sauce. Cheap, easy, filling, healthy, delicious.

I love tofu but I think it's a mistake to treat it as a meat substitute instead of a cool vegetable. As a meat substitute, my go to is seitan or nice mushrooms. But honestly my staple protein tends to be beans and pulses. Chickpeas, black beans, lentils.

We just had our lowest patreon payout in 2 years. We don't typically take sponsors and our next 2 projects are both ones that would be significantly weakened by the presence of one. If you enjoy our work and have funds to comfortably pledge to support us right now, we would really appreciate it.

“The plug has been pulled on humanitarian services.

Over the past days, utility providers have severed electricity and water one by one to UNRWA’s schools, health centres, and other service provision points across occupied #EastJerusalem.”

This sucks. Oddnon was a real gem. While sick, while suffering, they were always there for creators; fundraising, encouraging, sharing, and apparently listening and holding space and consoling and yet more than I knew. The Oddnon I did know was a welcome brightness at premieres. One I will miss.
