a regular occurrence that is almost by the hour in the US is that people are disappeared by state secret police and communities are left scattering to figure out what happened to them

just keep smashing on the policy choices that make californian independence more attractive why don't we

people get to decide their own comfort level ofc, and telling people stuff is safe when it isn't is not great, but i think "you need to be an anarcho prepper or just stay quiet, keep your head down" sucks as a strategy imo

i definitely think "you need this gear otherwise you will get hurt" made me stay away from some protests in the past, and now it's like, ok maybe that's true still, but id rather risk getting hurt than just staying home and i don't want to have to "gear up for war" when saying "this shit sucks"

people think "you have to be prepared for war" is a good thing to say to people to get them to protest, but it just means people don't show up at all. which kind of accomplishes the goals of the government anyway right?

it definitely feels a little "compliance in advance" to say you shouldn't exercise your rights because the government wants to take them away.

average liberal grandma: i had my daughter take a picture of me so my grandkids know i marched for truth, justice, and the american way :-)

it's deeply frustrating how this was *decidedly* the vibe that i got from how he treated nrx, and that it just turns out he was just fucking gaslighting everyone when he said he was just asking questions

so i was looking at the timeline on this one: to his credit, Eliezer Yudkowsky bans the neoreactionaries from Lesswrong in 2014. he is still on Peter Thiel's bankroll when he does this. Peter Thiel cuts them off from funding 2015. this is probably not unrelated
