It’s not too complex (as far as I can tell), but it offers up new vistas with each new story arc

It’s not for everyone (eg, it’s not a profound character study) - but I’m enjoying it

I think this is a drama you have to enjoy for the sense of adventure & the visual atmospherics - the forests, mountains & caves etc

The narrative follows the trajectory of Han Li as he works towards his goals, defeating enemies - using his intelligence to compensate for his lack of innate ability

I’m guessing I won’t really bring round the doubters - but nothing ventured and all that 😅

It’s great that it’s airing for US viewers, but so far there’s no information about how it will end up in Europe or the UK (it’s only steaming on Disney for US audiences so far)

Yes, it definitely has that aspect to it 👍

Even as someone who doesn’t play computer games I quite like the idea of unlocking different levels - each of which contains different challenges to overcome & landscapes to explore

But there’s enough story to it as well that one can enjoy the narrative

She has all her past life skills knowledge - both fighting & strategy - but in the body of a weaker girl, & needs to adapt herself to fit her new body

It’s a case of “the spirit (or mind) is willing, but the flesh is weak”

As someone else was saying, in the drama this part is explained by her slow recovery from being poisoned & stabbed (& falling off a cliff & half-drowning!) - which is fair enough 😅

But I think the rebirth angle helps explain this much better.

So the drama’s depiction of He Yan with Zhou Ye’s slightish physical frame is actually quite apt, & in line with the story the drama is based on 🙂

I only meant to suggest - to folks who are reasonably skeptical about an actor as slight as Zhou Ye being appropriate for this role - that in the novel her body is actually weaker (it’s her mind or spirit that is reborn).

It sounds like there’s a similarity here with kdramas, because supernatural stuff - ghosts etc - is mixed in with contemporary kdramas as well.

The only Thai dramas I’ve tried out so far have been secular detective stories & romances - but I’m guessing the supernatural dramas are just as popular?

Yes - these are only my own speculations, as I’ve heard & read conflicting rationales for the censorship (which is unevenly applied - & in xianxias anything goes!)

I think the issue of altering history is the main worry - but there’s also a general antipathy to any aspects regarded as superstitious (perhaps with the politics of Tibetan Buddhism partly in mind), & maybe a worry that some viewers will take rebirth literally & commit suicide to improve their lot?

She was so heroic in this episode - & her use of the strange whip was amazing - so I can totally understand why you would get excited by it! ☺️

Rebirth & reincarnation drama stories - as well as time travel drama stories - have often been censored & forced to make changes by the censors

I don’t understand the criteria because some are accepted while others are rejected

But it’s safer to adapt the story ahead of time to avoid worry

Of course, in this drama we know she *was* a female general (disguised as a man) only recently, before her latest incarnation as a simple soldier.

But there is an extra resonance when we realise the background rebirth aspect

I think it helps to understand #LegendoftheFemaleGeneral better if people realise this is originally a *rebirth* story (which the drama likely altered to avoid censors).

From what I’ve read the FL is reborn in a weaker body than her previous life, so has to learn to adapt her skills anew
