29.07.2025 23:04 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I learned that Docker on Windows is not as nice as on Mac when trying to help a colleague last week. There were BIOS settings to look at, which you can’t do while on Zoom. Suuuuper easy on Mac though.

Yesterday I went and picked blueberries at a local farm. Tonight I made jammy fruit bars with them. Soooo good!

Good morning! I'm in Uganda to visit family and friends.
But depending on your perspective, don't worry or I'm sorry: I'll be back by the end of the month.
See you soon, NYC.
This was illuminating in about 250 different ways; too much to track but @reichlinmelnick.bsky.social somehow on top of it all

Even taking time-tested activities from an established book can’t prepare you for everything students will throw at you as they work.
12.07.2025 19:05 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Yeah, I showed Oscar how to get an ARM64 build to automate and he figured out how to streamline it so certain things that are required for that platform but not Intel are included only in the ARM64 build.

Also, consider just using a devcontainer with Docker image. Then you don’t have to worry about homebrew or virtual environments. Felt like magic the first time I got it to work, and @oscarlevin.com polished it up.
Oh, we’re 100% in for a shitshow, because it’s not just Madison but all of the Universities of Wisconsin that are doing it this week. I will consider it a small miracle if I get paid next week.

01.07.2025 16:06 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I guess in that regard, I’m lucky that an adoption agency was careless to the point of stupidity. If the YOLO Court decides to give in to Trump’s absurd interpretation of the 14th Amendment, there will be pushes to make it retroactive. I know nothing of my biodad, so maybe I become stateless?
01.07.2025 13:35 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Like the author, I’m an adoptee via a closed adoption. ND is one of the states with restrictive laws on access to original birth certificates. I do know the almost certain identity of my biomom (and she knows my name), but that was against my will and truly by accident and coincidence for her.

A 'poster' entitled 'mathematical formulas'. it is full of errors, inconsistencies and weirdnesses, like 'statiatics', 'primeter'(which is under 'Pythagoras' Theorem') 'middian'. It looks plausible at first sight, but is nonsensical.
This is what #ChatGPT responds when you ask it to 'make a poster for a maths classroom with all the key formulas on it that a student aged 11-14 in the UK might need'. As with most #AI responses, it looks plausible but the more you look, the worse it gets..
What's your (least) favourite part?

The bar for me is so low that if it actually generated exactly six matrices and all six were 3x3, I’d consider that more accurate than I had expected.
