My mum was originally from Ireland but I was born in London so I’m very much English sounding. It was particularly apparent when I was in Ireland for a few years, despite being and feeling half Irish I sound very English. I’m more relaxed about it now when I go back to see friends and family

Yeah I get how that must have been tricky

I was brought up in a well spoken family, in particular my father was very English and quite formal. I was sent a local state school in England and rapidly became the target for jokes etc because I spoke well. I spent the next few years dumbing down my accent to avoid attention!

It was a bit odd for a few months following but that was it.

We don’t really have any seriously venomous spiders here but we do have an increasing number of ‘Noble False Widows’ and whilst their bite is usually no worse than a bee sting sometimes people get a histamine reaction and in my case I came out in hives head to toe 😬 only steroids could sort it.
