I couldn't afford to move to Denver in 2021 when my job at the time did. The reality is many of these metro areas have largely caught up with "high cost coastal" metro areas in recent years.

Interestingly I actually just met an anglophile earlier this evening. He's a big Sherlock Holmes fan, which is apparently how he became an Anglophile.
24.11.2025 04:41 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I doubt it will be handled competently but even if it isn't Trump still could enjoy a rally around the flag boost in 2026, thought by 2028 the public could tire of the War. Even then it could still be a good electoral strategy to leave yet another mess for the next Democratic President.
24.11.2025 04:25 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I hope you're right.

I'm not sure if it so much became attractive to sons and daughters of the elite wealthy, as the decline of the newspaper industry largely locked everyone else out of the opportunity to become journalists.

21.11.2025 18:30 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Not really. In the 1980s Arkansas was blue enough at all levels besides Presidential, that getting elected Governor as a Democrat wasn't remarkable the way getting elected Governor of Kentucky as a Democrat in the 2020s is.
21.11.2025 18:22 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Those 3 elections were all Republican landslides nationally, though. Reagan only narrowly won Arkansas in 1980. In 1984 and '88 the Natural State was more Republican leaning than the country as a whole, but only by a few percentage points.
21.11.2025 18:15 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Arkansas was a blue state when Clinton was Governor, so his getting elected Governor isn't really comparable to a Democrat winning in an R+30 state nowadays. Of course that just majes Beshear's electoral record look more impressive though.

It's already a 3 percentage point increase in Republican vote share since that Marist poll this morning, so it's a great place for the party in power to be. At this rate Republicans will be polling at 100% by Saturday afternoon.

It's funny, the only regular usage of Hecto i can think of is Hectopascals for atmospheric pressure. And many countries including the USA usually use inches of mercury for that anyway.
