How Africa boycotted the 1966 World Cup The BBC's Piers Edwards explains the little-known story behind the African boycott to the 1966 World Cup, the only World Cup in history to have been snubbed by an entire continent.

On the subject of World Cup boycotts, this is a story which ought to be much better known: why African countries decided not to compete for a place at the 1966 tournament. One of Fifa's most shameful moments, which hardly ever gets a mention.

Yesterday, we hosted a watch party for the Africa Cup of Nations final at Surrogate’s Court near City Hall. Fans of all ages packed the room β€” the energy was incredible. It may have been Senegal and Morocco playing, but it was NYC through it all.

Fantastic performance and result. A pretty much perfect night, capped off by a brilliant Gyokeres goal to seal it.

Seven wins from seven in the Champions League. Top two secured with a game to spare. So impressive.

Whether it’s Barack Obama being the editor of Harvard Law Review or Donald Trump narrowly passing a cognitive test used to detect dementia, there’s plenty of serious intellectual accomplishments on both sides of the aisle.

Arsenal were fortunate that Amadou Onana had to come off at halftime.

Aston Villa were fortunate they didn't have to face Declan Rice.

That's football.

I love this from GyΓΆkeres.
He could easily be sulking after a tough shift and being subbed without a goal, but instead, he’s out there embracing our No. 9 and celebrating the win. ❀🀍

I just taught my lecture course on mid-20th c US history, which starts with Harding and concludes with Nixon.

For the first time, I had to pause and stress that those scandals were actually shocking at the time and, what’s more, that Americans actually demanded people be held accountable.

America's richest 10% now hold 60% of the nation's wealth.

The bottom half of America? It holds just 6%.

Wealth inequality is eating this country alive.

Not to be controversial but I think we should use tools and resources to make people's lives less miserable instead of more

Sorry, but that should be bread and butter for GyΓΆkeres but his movement/anticipation wasn't aggressive enough there. It's not the first time this season either.

Saka can't do much more with that ball in.

F/T: 2-1 Arsenal.

Three crucial points, now let's never talk about this game again.

Saka was levels above any other player on the pitch tonight. It's been reduced a bit this season (mainly because of Trossard) but as long as he's playing, Arsenal will always have a right-sided bias because he's really fucking good.

We don't win that game without him.

I would just like to point out the irony of Arsenal finally signing a clinical 9 and now people are getting behind Gabriel Jesus playing more again

Club Bruges hoping for New manage bounce against Arsenal so hard...

Ivan Leko was their coach in the past in fact, and it was reported that he was arrested and released on some fraud/match fixing/money laundering charges around 2018.

If Anthony Taylor gives Caicedo yellow for either of his first two violent conducts, or even talks to him he probably doesn't go like that on Merino. MM was lucky, next time someone might not be.

I just wish PGMOL at least gives the attention they give to time wasting, technical fouls.
