It's not envy. There's no resentment I feel to the book, the author, or the characters in the story. It's just my memories attacking. A whirlwind of emotion is just grabbing hold of me and I don't know where I'll wash up.

It's made me want to read the book even more. It's made me reflect on myself even more. Though, if I'm honest, reading the book has almost brought me to tears many times already. It's torn out stitches and made me want to weep. The smile I end up with is one that's solely bittersweet.

Reading クラスで２番目に可愛い女の子と友だちになった has revived some buried memories, some buried feelings of joy, and pierced my heart. Asanagi's behaviour is so palpable that, if you've ever borne witness to behaviour like it before, it's real. In my case, though, that joy carries with it pain.
