The success of the far right is not only measured in votes and seats but in its impact on rhetoric, policy and ideology. The fact that a (nominally) social democratic head of government with a huge majority choses to say and do this is maybe the biggest success of the far right in Europe yet.

Driven by fear of the far right, the EU is losing its compass, whether on migration, climate or Gaza. By undermining its own principles, Europe weakens its global position and risks losing not just dignity but political agency.

Public opinion is outcome of complex interaction between fact, perception, and ideology — which are shaped, to large part, by (social) media and politics.

The gap between fact and perception is growing because neoliberal media emphasize extreme outliers and dominant ideology emphasizes mistrust.
