Implications of a precedent-setting EU ferro-alloys safeguard - Borderlex - European trade policy You need to be a subscriber and logged in to view this content... Request a free trial subscription or Log in.

Think the new EU #ferroalloys #safeguard boring?

It sets a precedent for how the EU does trade defence (not beautiful) and may pave the way for new ones in future.

Interesting. The whole thing started with a controversy over EU sovereignty provisions related to cybersecurity standards in the EU - which US-firm lobbying successfully killed off in the first term of Ursula von der Leyen….

Anyone who complains about "decades of unfettered free trade policy" doesn't know anything about trade policy.

Today, the conservatives (EPP) passed a major piece of EU legislation with the far-right groups in the EU Parliament, marking the breakdown of the cordon sanitaire. The EPP, under Weber, has decided to sacrifice long-term principles and stability for short-term political gains.

Editor’s Take: MEP far-right mainstreaming in trade – the Israel case - Borderlex - European trade policy The mainstreaming of the far right into EU-level discourse was on full display during last week's discussion on trade relations with Israel.

Mainstreaming of far right in trade. Case study: trade relations w Israel. It starts with the far right-de-legitimising the process – but then the centre right jumps in

Well well. This, if it happens, could get out of hand. Not that such intelligence is not needed but centralising it in pdts office instead of reforming and revamping means trouble and potentially troubling developments ahead. Another vdL stink bomb.

🇪🇺⚖️🇵🇱 I keep thinking about this story, how the rule of law gladiator @profpech.bsky.social pushed back against the composition of a rule of law seminar organised by AFCO and, in the end, in a very Laurent Pech fashion, withdrew entirely. What kind of "bad people" do we want to talk to? 1/

One of the most self-destructive things Germany could do is to reverse the green transition now.

Renewables expansion has been on a tear but Germany has seen reversals before, unfortunately. And the country still does not have oil or gas and isn’t getting any anytime soon (ever).
