SIWC: Day 82

SIWC: Day 82
- Wrote a new heavy hitting subtext lifting scene extender. Yay!
- Tried to add another important research based add-on to another scene. Felt like a book report. Nayβ¦
- 1 out of 2 is better than zero!
SIWC: Day 81
- Worked through Act 2
- Applied notes and tried to lightly work in some of my research
- Added some stage directions
- Changed a character arc ending
SIWC: Day 80
- Back on the main play again today
- Spent a couple hours applying notes I made on Act 1.
- Rewrote some scene endings and dialogue for better flow.
SIWC: Day 79
- Breaking the story a bit more for this short idea
- Defining key relationships
- Thinking about specific scenes
- Plot would have to change from the old script, so the big questionβ¦ How do I end this thingβ¦
- Going to try and write a bit more dialogue before bed.
SIWC: Day 78
- Watched a film for research. Seeing what I can learn from a very specific story structure.
- Have a few new tangible ideas for how to adapt this story into a short film.
- Would be a big overhaul but an interesting idea!
- Wrote a quick new scene that would support the adaptation.
SIWC: Day 77
- I wrote a short horror/scifi play before Halloween, and today I re-read it, made notes, and thought through the process of maybe adapting that concept to a short filmβ¦
- How would that story work in that medium? How do I hold the audienceβs interest? How much would need to changeβ¦?
SIWC: Day 76
- Not my most productive writing day, but still moving forwardβ¦
- Wrote some short and sweet poetry
- Broke down the characters in each scene to see how each character arc flows. Thereβs a lot to keep track of!
- Playing with adding more mythology in small places.
SIWC: Day 75
- Mulled over structure again
- Listened to Joachim Trier talk theme
- Considered a new location for the intermission.
- Created and added many things to a kind of bonus list of scene ideas
- Researched a lot of truly wild factual stories that could spark something.
- Weird day
SIWC: Day 74
- Read through the second half.
- Flagged things for edits
- Itβs still missing a little something but I donβt know exactly what. Hoping it becomes obvious eventuallyβ¦
- Moved a scene from the first half to the second. Better fit.
- I canβt wait to have actors work this stuff.
SIWC: Day 73
- Printed draft 1 of my new play. Itβs a real thing! On real paper!
- Half way through a read. Stopped at intermission.
- Leaving notes and thoughts.
- Thinking about alt lines.
- Fixing typos
- Wondering where can I still pour gasoline on the fireβ¦
SIWC: Day 72
- Wrote a quick scene.
- Basically trying to feel out the two lead characters for this tv idea
- I think I might just have to write a bunch of non-essential stuff until I understand their voice, and then get back on plot.
- One step closer to a real thing.
SIWC: Day 71
- Still brainstorming this potential TV thing.
- Trying to see what drives the characters (and then what drives the show)
- Started mapping out an episode.
- Would love to write dialogue, but need a clearer picture.
- The idea has promise though! β¨
SIWC: Day 70
- Wrote out some key narratives that could support a tv show pitch concept!
- Also serves as a list of scene/story prompts for further writing
- Now need to create some concrete charactersβ¦
SIWC: Day 69
- Need a break to find fresh eyes on this script
- Wrote poetry instead.
- I never regret writing poetry.
SIWC: Day 68
- Read the play today. Out loud. To myself. In orderβ¦
- Really tried to imagine the experience.
- It took a couple hours
- There are some speed bumps, but thereβs a real world in there!
- Also fixed some typos!
Self-Inflicted Writing Challenge: Day 67
The first draft is done!!! β
I wrote a play again.
Game on.
SIWC: Day 66
- Rewrote the only scene I thought I needed to be finished this play draft.
- Very happy to have reworked that with better character integration. βοΈ
- BUT, the rewriting opened the door for another new scene to wrap up a storyline.
- Sooo. One more day until draft V1?
- Stay tuned.
SIWC: Day 65
Wrote a lot today.
One scene away from a first draft.
SIWC: Day 64
- Laid the scene cards out again
- Literally stared at them all for half an hour, thinking about theme, trying to clarify the central thematic question.
- Then spent about an hour reworking scenes. Getting steadily closer to a real useable script draftβ¦
SIWC: Day 63
- Reworked two scenes
- Pulling one further on to theme
- Grounding the other
- I am very tired. Good night!
SIWC: Day 62
- Reallllly pushed it with todayβs scene. But I genuinely see it working well. And itβs still on theme.
- So no one can stop me!!!
- This play is outrageous
- Muahahahahaaa.
- the streak continues.
SIWC: Day 61
- Added some opportunities for *audience participation* to resolve an inherent script logic issue that was bothering me.
- Still doing the thing
SIWC: Day 60
- Finished yesterdays scene
- Reworked a couple more
- I think Iβm about halfway through turning all these rough scenes into an actual script? π«£
- Off to watch 40 people do improv.
SIWC: Day 59
- Pushing the tone a bit on a new scene, but I think maybe the variety is valuable overall.
- Needed a break from big picture thinking.
- Happy snow day.
SIWC: Day 58
- Set the writing timer, no heavy work today, but better than nothing.
- Poked through some scenes
- Started on a speech to expand a characters POV
SIWC: Day 57
- Merged two characters into one storyline
- Reframed a scene with a new opening
- Did some more scene by scene rewriting
- Having fun finding the connective tissue between plot points!
SIWC: Day 56
- Kind of a simplistic thought, but this part of the writing process feels like colouring. The scenes are there, the outline is there, and now Iβm injecting some more life into it. Deepening reality.
- I spent hours colouring today.
- Might be colouring all week.
SIWC: Day 55
- Set a timer for writing today, worked past the goal. β
- Felt like I barely dented it, but digging a little deeper on scenes with the knowledge of the full story.
- These updates are less interesting.
- Still streaking.
- Wahoooooooooo.
SIWC: Day 54
- We are officially in writing in rewriting territory!
- Slowly turning my "assembly of scenes" doc into an actual script
- Now that I know the story/people a bit better, I'm kind of reworking scenes for character clarity.
- Fun only slightly monotonous stuff!
