The old project is dead and let’s keep it that way. The new one begins when we make common cause with every person who works for a living and refuse to be divided by the language of difference.

That is how we win again. That is how we govern again. And that is how we rebuild the American promise.

Let us retire the nonsensical academic vocabulary that’s polluted the national zeitgeist. Let us speak instead about wages, dignity, and freedom from economic domination. The words that matter most are paychecks, prices, and power.

The Democratic Party built the New Deal, the GI Bill, and Medicare. It lifted millions because they united people around mutual goals, not cultural factions. That is the model that must be rediscovered. Zohran understands this. Bernie understood this.

That means fighting for the universal goods that strengthen every community such as union rights, housing guarantees, childcare, fair taxation, and public healthcare. It means ending the idea that justice for some identities can substitute for prosperity for all.

The last era of liberal activism of hashtags and consultant-tested slogans routinely fails to even the odds for everyone in this country. A new era must center on something else: the shared struggle of everyone who works for a living.

You win them by showing how their fate is tied to everyone else who works for a living. The path forward isn’t resentment. We need to show that we all have a shared purpose. Our political project must change.

We also need to face a political reality: white Americans are still the largest group in this country, and no progressive coalition can govern without their support. You don’t win people over by making them feel guilty. Same goes for young men in general.

I am not saying equality, inclusion, or justice no longer matter. I am saying we cannot build a fair society through terminology. We will not win people’s trust by policing their tone while their rent goes up and their job disappears.

Wages are stagnant. Housing is unaffordable. Healthcare is a maze. Corporations dominate every industry while real labor power has collapsed. Yet when people look to the Democrats for answers, they hear lectures about language instead of plans to raise their standard of living.

We need to talk about the direction of the Democratic Party. For fifteen years, they’ve built their politics around activism and identity. They’ve said that if we could change language, we could change society. But those changes have not been seen in our society.
