Hello #rstats, I'm searching for work opportunities and wanted to put out a friendly inquiry. My work has focused on shiny and package development, github.com/nteetor/. I would appreciate any advice or leads and I am happy to talk more. Thank you!

Introducing acquaint, an R package that turns your R sessions into a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server. This allows MCP-enabled tools like Claude Desktop and Claude Code to run #rstats code _in your active R sessions_ to explore objects, read documentation, etc.

Yes! It took me 6 months to figure out, okay, now what? But when I did it was great.

Gotta say, the {ellmer} package is robust and pretty darn easy to use. Nicely done, Dr. Wickham!

@matloff.bsky.social @datavisfriendly.bsky.social I have a "small-ish n" problem, the covariance of short-ish time series. The EWMA cov estimate worked pretty well, but the matrix was not invertible ("uncooperative"). The cov.shrink function gave an invertible matrix; and the shrinkage was a bonus.

OMG. @eddelbuettel.com points out that the correct spelling of the function is `cov.shrink`. Thank you, Dirk! #mybad

Are you an #rstats person struggling with an uncooperative covariance matrix? I was. I tried the `cov.shink` function of the {corpcor} package and got a very noticeable improvement in my models. Recommended. #positive #definite

On paper, the new S7 tools for object-oriented programming in #rstats sound great. Can anyone comment on their experience using S7? I haven't seen any discussion about it. I use R6 often, and S7 looks even better. (And, BTW, many thanks to @hadley.nz for spearheading the S7 project!)
