Dude won 3 hands of blackjack in a row and decided to bet his entire house on the 4th hand. At least he'll always have a job with the Lakers.

Has there ever been a Bond continuity when they switch actors? Like did Pierce Brosnan spend a few lines talking about his encounter with Octopussy? Was there someone out there that was mad Daniel Craig wasn't on the lookout for Odd Job?

Everything he's done in the past year has made the PJ Washington trade and the Kyrie trade look like flukes. He went from trading for undervalued players on bad teams to trading his franchise cornerstone for a guy everyone knows can't be your franchise cornerstone.

I also don't trust the 76ers offense given that they haven't beaten a good team yet and they have wins against the Nets, Hornets, and Wizards. They've beaten terrible teams and gotten beat by the good teams.

You should really try to play the Wizards, Pelicans, or Nets. Every team in the top right end of this chart has a blowout win over one of those 3 teams boosting their offensive and defensive ratings. Some of the ratings might normalize when more games come in to drown out those blowouts.

We have the benefit of hindsight! We know the trade made the Knicks a mediocre team and prompted them to trade even more assets (Bargnani trade). We know the Nuggets got the second star that helped them win a title out of the deal. And the only possible benefit was getting Melo slightly early.

I think we just have to agree to disagree. I think the Melo trade was on the short list of the worst trades ever. You clearly don't. The Knicks gave up all of their depth for a player they could have signed as a free agent and the move resulted in one second round playoff appearance. Seems bad.

Why are you comparing trading picks and your entire roster worth of roleplayers for getting Melo half a season early to trading a bunch of roleplayers and picks for Davis on a 3 year deal? The part that makes the Melo trade a massive overpay is how little time was bought for the assets given up.

I'd take a lottery pick and a full team worth of roleplayers over AD and Maximum Christie.

My bad, it was the 2016 pick from NY turned into Jamal Murray. The 2014 pick and all of those roleplayers turned into a playoff team. The return for a prime MVP candidate should have been more than 6 months of Melo, but I think the Knicks ended up giving up more than the Lakers did

Who did the 2014 pick turn into? Also, that grab bag of mid players got the Nuggets to the playoffs. Getting that many playable roleplayers for 6 months of Melo and Chauncey was a heist.

That Lakers roster after the trade last year made no sense at all and they lost to the team that made the WCF. Other teams are allowed to be good! The western conference is incredible and has been for a decade at least. Luka is a walking playoff birth and a puncher's chance in every series.

He made the western conference finals twice and made the NBA Finals. What more do you want out of a guy in his early 20s? He lost to a stacked Celtics team with a Mavs roster whose third best player was either a rookie center, ancient Klay Thompson, or PJ Washington. What are we doing here?

Trading an MVP candidate at the beginning of his prime should get you an entire franchise worth of picks. It should get you the PG to the Clippers, Melo to the Knicks, or Harden to the Nets return. Getting an aging, injured second banana who relies on athleticism is a fireable offense.

It isn't defensible at all. Luka dragged the Mavs to the finals the year before the trade! If his defensive liabilities were actually bad enough to hold the Mavs back in the playoffs, they wouldn't have made the WCF multiple times and NBA Finals.

Look, when you can trade a 20 something perennial MVP candidate for the world's most injured man in his 30s, you just have to do it. The pairing of a PG so unreliable that the Nets were giving him away and a guy nicknamed Street Clothes just had to happen.

The NBA so highly rewards tanking that even a poorly run tank job will likely make you a better team in 5 years than keeping a mediocre team together. I don't know if the same principle is true in the NFL given how short NFL careers are. An NBA tank sets you up for a decade.

They made a few specific, bad picks immediately following The Process, but they still went from a team constantly fighting for 8th place to a title contender. For the record, the OKC Thunder just won a title by basically doing The Process in a city that didn't care about tanking for 3 years.

I mean, it did? They got an MVP and multiple all-stars out of their tank. They didn't win anything because their MVP level player is made of glass, but they were in a much better spot after the tank than before.

Who has less self-respect: Stephen A for turning his unprofessionalism into an endorsement deal or ESPN for continuing to employ someone who clearly doesn't respect the job you pay him to do?

I like how the bars show you how small the Cuomo and Sliwa voting pools are. They represent almost all of the maybe and definitely leave people, yet their overall impact on the age or gender totals is small. Like yeah, the supporters of the other guys will be mad. Not exactly news.

A great discussion of an excellent game with juicy symbolism out the wazoo. And I once more defend "high school drama" being an important element of teenage protagonists' lives! lol

The f DOES stand for FUN

The East is maybe the most bottom heavy it's ever been. Some team is going to make the play-in with a record 4-5 games below 500, maybe worse.
