Because our ND life-world is often evaluated on observable phenomenon, there can confusion between ADHD and Austism. Stimming is common in both, but often confused for Austism. Bodily movement either stimulates or reduces sensory phenomena in an attempt to regulate feelings.

I will be doing a 15 minute talk at the ADHD Experience comedy night in Brighton next Sunday.
My slot has been billed as a talk, not a comedy, so I want to make people laugh, but totally deadpan.
Think Jack Dee.
Think Michael Cain in Muppets Christmas Carol.
Do you think I can pull this off?

I couldn't agree more. One size fits all services are fit for very few people. Group sessions, different case workers, changing appointment times, unclear expectations, forced eye contact, sensory overloading environments... it's just not good enough.

"What is autism, if it's not a disorder?"
I get asked this. Sometimes curiously. Sometimes more as a challenge e.g. from those who 'don't believe in labels' or feel we're 'all on the spectrum.'

I lived for 6 decades believing I was existentially broken. But diagnostic criteria hide far more about ND life-worlds than they reveal. It's time to step away from the pathologising, normalising, power paradigm of the medicalised model of neurodivergence.

Why Suicide Is All Too Common Among Autistic Adults
Suicide rates are extremely high among autistic adults. Reevaluating the way workplaces, families, and friends relate to the support needs of autistic adults might be the answer.
Autistics are >9x more likely to die by suicide
>13x if you're a woman / AFAB
>28x if you're a child
These rates go up when unidentified as Autistic
Identifying Autism in people without intellectual disability is medically necessary

Why autistic people must be at the heart of autism research
A research project led entirely by autistic people aims to change the way autism research is conducted.
โAutistic people should always be involved in research in a meaningful way and should be listened to at every stage of a project.
By doing that, researchers can avoid inadvertently doing research that is either harmful to autistic people, or which misinterprets the findings."
