The Whitney’s Surrealism Show Is a Mindfuck I wish “Sixties Surreal” focused more on destabilizing the concept of “real” than reifying it.

What “Sixties Surreal” at the Whitney is trying to do is incredibly ambitious. Because of the very importance of its aims, it needs to better define its terms. What constitutes the “real,” and therefore, the “surreal”?

The highlight of today's walk was finding my first female Vapourer moth, sitting on her cocoon, presumably newly emerged. Ominously, there were tiny parasitic wasps hanging around, presumably waiting to inject her eggs.
And, very close by, another cocoon, this one covered in eggs. #TeamMoth

A handmade birthday on watercolour paper, with a border covered in sample paint dots in a rainbow of colours. In the middle is a radiating pattern, with one ray in each of the paint dot colours, and two rays with text in reading happy birthday.

The card being made on my work bench. Alternate rays have been coloured in and are drying. Around the card are rulers and set squares, pencils, an eraser and a paintbrush. Y'know the usual mayhem.

Now we're well past the event, gonna share this birthday card I made for my niece.

my color photograph of a large Lactarius deliciosus mushroom fruiting body, erupting out of the deep brown redwood duff in Mendocino County, CA. This beautiful orange mushroom has a splotchy stipe with a geometric orange tiling pattern on a cream background. The cap is deeply funnel shaped and filled with rain water and bits of brown leaf litter. The edge of the rich golden cap has deeper orange patterning but none of the deep emerald green coloration that this species is often known for.
