Furthermore, the speed of this new model permitted exploration into repeated bounces wihtout further loss of resolution - supporting long scale investigation into Faraday pilot wave dynamics, coming full circle from my initial thesis formulation report 5 years ago! 3/4

We introduce new analytical and computational modelling approaches for capturing the dynamics of a liquid drop and pool impact which include a fully coupled reduced dynamic model for the entraped gas region between droplet and bath, and compare to dedicated direct numerical simulation. 2/4

Ten years ago I was a confused kid in the middle of her A levels who’d just lost her father to cancer, and didn’t know what she was going to do with her life. Now I couldn’t be more proud of who I’ve become. I’m a mathematician, science communicator, and still an avid rugby fan.

It was pure chance - they randomly chose one fan who’d been supporting since the beginning to win the honour, so my name went everywhere (including the wiki page, much to someone's attempt to keep kicking me off there!!)

Ten years ago today, the ospreys celebrated their ten year anniversary by renaming the then liberty stadium the “Katie Phillips Stadium”. I still find it completely surreal that for a single match all the commentators were saying MY name, and all the branding everywhere in the stadium got replaced.

A large part ofmy love of rugby is due to the weekly rhythm in our house. Saturdays meant doing the weekly shop, wolfing down a swansea pie, and then heading off to sit in the cold for two hours beside my Mam and Dad, and later Mam and Bampi, as we cheered on @ospreysofficial.bsky.social. 🧵1/5

28. The PhD gave me a load of opportunities to travel, my favourite of which was getting to attend ICIAM in Tokyo 2023. It was a massive (thousands of people) conference from all over the world getting excited about maths. And I got to present my poster via robot! (Plus Japan was a dream location!)

27. Im really not a morning person, I think if life didn't work around a 9-5 assumption, my productive hours seem to be late evenings-early hours of the morning thesis write-up was a strange time)

I've had an amazingly full circle moment today where I was invited to speak at the applied mathematics seminar in Cardiff University. I completed my undergraduate in Cardiff in 2019, so to go back just after completing my PhD and share my success with the people who inspired me was a lovely feeling.
