Farmworkers Are Organizing to Resist Trump’s Attacks on Immigrant Workers Organizers from Florida, Vermont and Washington discuss the rising exploitation and rollback of protections ahead.

Edgar Franks of Familias Unidas por la Justicia, an independent union of primarily Indigenous Mexican farmworkers: β€œOrganizing is the way we keep each other safe. When we have unity and solidarity, the community will be emboldened to step up.” truthout.org/articles/far... #WeFeedYou

More of this please.

Everywhere! Nothing happens without the workers and I have a feeling a lesson will be taught.

What an achievement vaccines are. What a monument to our love for each other it is to stare straight into the face of something as horrific and unstoppable as smallpox or measles or polio or cervical cancer and say β€œYou know what, it doesn’t have to be like this.”

HUMANS!

2024 Presidential Election β€” Our Gameplan: Defend Wildlife Here at Defenders of Wildlife, we get up every morning with one goal in mind: defend the animals, landscapes and natural bounty that define our nation. And, today, our 2.1 million members are counting...

"We don’t need a crystal ball to know that the incoming Administration, led by a 🀑 will push a legislative and regulatory agenda that is designed to dismantle bedrock conservation laws like the Endangered Species Act, and destroy the wildlife and habitat we cherish.”

btw a great way to support your local library to join or start a Friends of the Library group! (These are groups that support the library but are independent from it, so search for your library + "friends of the library" and information should come up!)

Reminder to offer your sons books (and audiobooks) you're not sure they will read (or listen to), just in case they do.

My 12yo is 3 hours in on Little Women.

Giving boys fiction that makes it clear girls and women have a rich interior life is important, now and always, I think.

A man in a beekeeper outfit looks into a mirror and says "Candyman..." Candyman arrives and floods the room with bees. The beekeeper says "thanks for helping to restore the world's bee population with your supernatural bee powers." Candyman considers this for a moment, then looks back up an nonchalantly remarks "I have a complex relationship with bees."

My friends and I keep talking about how the stuff you're going to end up doing to help, if you're serious about helping, is not going to look heroic or cool. 99.9% of the work is tiny and boring and all the main characters are gonna have to reckon with that.

Just a reminder to support your local public libraries! Write letters of support. Use the library often & in many different ways. Show up to meetings.

Library staff have been begging for help, advocacy, and action for years. Please show up for libraries.

I have a foreboding of an America in my children's or grandchildren's time - when the United States is a service and information economy; when nearly all the key manufacturing industries have slipped away to other countries; when awesome technological powers are in the hands of a very few, and no one representing the public interest can even grasp the issues; when the people have lost the ability to set their own agendas or knowledgeably question those in authority; when, clutching our crystals and nervously consulting our horoscopes, our critical faculties in decline, unable to distinguish between what feels good and what's true, we slide, almost without noticing, back into superstition and darkness. The dumbing down of America is most evident in the slow decay of substantive content in the enormously influential media, the 30-second sound bites (now down to 10 seconds or less), lowest common denominator programming, credulous presentations on pseudoscience and superstition, but especially a kind of celebration of ignorance.

Today would have been Carl Sagan's 90th birthday. He wrote this in 1995. Carl was absolutely right. #CarlSaganDay
