Listening to the 500th episode of @thedigradio.bsky.social and getting extremely verklempt, I don’t think there’s any other outlet that’s kept me pointed due north like this incredible show. I quite literally grew up with it and do not think I’d be one quarter the organizer I am without it

I’m on @thedigradio.bsky.social. We talk about the intertwined histories of capitalism and extraction; the origins of OPEC & new geopolitics of supply chains; what I think about degrowth; green development in the Global South; green economic populism in US; Chinese industrial policy & much more

Make some time for this. It's critical to how you'll understand the next decade of energy politics, here in the U.S. and everywhere.

*congenial debates about whether neoliberalism marks a distinct mode of capitalist development or is mostly congruous with earlier eras and forms of accumulation

We're building a multi-racial multi-gender multi-generational movement to change the world; the billionaires, the bosses and their allies thought they knocked us out, but really they proved us right.

And we're just getting started.

I’m enormously proud of what the socialist left in the United States has accomplished over the past decade. We’ve gone from nowhere to everywhere, working to build a majority coalition that can defeat fascist authoritarianism by transforming everyday people’s material conditions.

Great talk on the Battle in Seattle, 25 years later! A bit of a buried history, given the 9/11 demobilization of it all.

Worth your listen to learn how concerns about the WTO, sweatshops, and IMF structural adjustment helped shape and politicize many of the 40 and 50 something lefties in your life.

Meanwhile Tucker Carlson interviews Fuentes with peak antisemitism. The Right is bonded with antisemites. Don’t be fooled.

In so many ways, the vibrancy of our city can be judged by the health of our bodegas.

That’s why I’m so proud to be in the Bronx this morning to accept the endorsement of the United Bodegas of America.

The Dig" is not mass entertainment. Episodes are long and unapologetically academic-for listeners who want to "jump into the deep end of left politics," as Denvir puts it. (The Guardian once called him "a socialist Terry Gross.") He has interviewed nearly every star intellectual on the left, as well as Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-
Cortez (twice each). The politicians may or may not have time to listen, but their staffers certainly do.
"Within my world-leftist organizers, lapsed academics, or political-campaign staff, all of which I am-the show is incredibly influential," Andrew Epstein, Mamdani's creative director, said.

Combine this with what @melindacooper.bsky.social said recently in @thedigradio.bsky.social about a fiscal regime designed to suppress wage growth and inflate asset values through a combination of austerity measures and tax expenditures that operate as hidden public spending to benefit asset-owners.
