What Three Years of Stand-Up Comedy Taught Me About Personality Science
Before I was a clinical psychology researcher, I was a stand-up comedian.
The interpersonal situation framework describes a dynamic, unfolding context where perception, construal, affect, motivation, and behavior cycle between self and other. It also describes every open mic I ever did. Here, I map CIIT onto my experience.

Love my ember mug. I did notice when I hooked up 2 mugs it gets confused about which is which. Opening the app before adding the liquid helps.
Glad you enjoy it.

I just got an email from a colleague that asked βdo you think you could send me 1-2 sentences by the end of the weekβ. So that is how low the bar is for me in terms of responding to people on time, that this was an honest question.

Common security check screening on research gate. It requires the complex task of checking a box to promise that you are a human. Much like the NEO-PI-3 validity questions that literally just ask you if you answered honestly.
Spoken like a person who recently tried to download an article from ResearchGate.

Currently in a debate with a copy editor who suggests I canβt use the term inflexibility to describe personality disorder because the DSM uses that term and it may constitute copyright infringement.
The irony is not lost on me.

Yea I sometimes wait to introduce an acronym until the part in the paper where I start using it a lot so the readers donβt have to remember some random acronym from 2 pages back.

Imagine a person pushing a friendship away despite wanting a closer connection to them. But growing intimacy requires a vulnerability they are uncomfortable with.
So different cross-currents of motives, all mainly self focused, at different levels of awareness. What would healthy pf look like?
12.12.2025 11:27 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
I like this perspective. Though I see optimal PF as more of an integration of self focused perspectives and attending to others, as well as knowing when to weight one more.
How does this approach capture conflicting motives, with some below a persons awareness?
