My 3yo:

Watch dad apply toothpaste. No I want the other brush. Put me on the counter. Holds mouth shut as a game. Insists on toothbrushing blippi song. No water on toothbrush before, during, or after. Spits into sink without running the water, some gets on hair. Milk immediately after.

Well all of my coauthors weighed in, and each of them found a different way to say the manuscript was too complicated and confusing.

Guess it’s time to submit it.

Questionable robot design made of empty cardboard, plastic straws, and an old Starbucks coffee stopper.

My plan was to revise a paper due at the end of the month. But then my daughter was watching spidey and said what if we could make a robot?

So anyway, here is spidy-bot.

This one is good because it gets into heritability and transmission of disorders on externalizing spectrum. And considers how specific or broad to define disorder to maximize heritability/transmission.

I often spend a lot of time writing a specific part only to realize I’m going to cut it all. So zoom out if you have difficulty writing it to consider if it is needed anyway.

Also, to more easily delete those sections, I save it into a new doc first. Just in case I β€œneed it later” (I never do).

It's promotion letter writing season for academics in the US. As I'm going through my batch I thought I'd share a few things I did *not* know when I started doing this.

(I've served on dept and college's PTR committees, but institutional norms may differ--I'd be interested to hear other takes!)

Multilevel SEM Information β€” SMaRT Workshops

Do you work with nested data? Especially intensive longitudinal data (e.g., EMA)? Frustrated by the limited questions you can ask with regular multilevel modeling (MLM)?

Come learn multilevel structural equation (MSEM) modeling this month.

Thanks for clarifying! I ask because I’ve been centering those variables prior to lagging based on the Wickham and knee (2014) article, but I’m looking forward to reading your citation that points out the problems with this approach.

10.07.2025 11:29 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

So I’m wondering if your approach is better because the error terms are better separated, though I wonder how that might impact your effect sizes? Usually those are some version of signal/noise ratio and the noise would be different (perhaps more precise) in your model compared to others in the lit

I like your approach of running both within day and across day effects together. Do you have thoughts about how that compares to running them separate? Eg you could have looked at overnight effects by creating a daily only dataset and then error would be separated differently (across people, days).

Looks really interesting, thanks for sharing! Just had a quick question about centering. Did you end up centering the lagged variables (one spot said no, then in a different spot it said all level-1 variables were centered)?
