Was called a writer, wasn't insulted. Sometimes runs (mastodon.onlline), sometimes fights (undeadbird), always dwells on it afterward "The art of helping someone NOT to feel cornered" [Banner is a Berkey spaceship, icon is concentric squares]

Emerging from the shower like "I am renewed, for a time"

Envious. Of the show it's putting on, at least

@mattlees.bsky.social Have you tried any of the TI4 codices? Codexes?

Was also trying to do a strange calculus/calculation: If you subtract Eclipse (efficient mechanisms) from Twilight Imperium (prolly 4), what's left? Negotiability, thematic layers? I wonder if there's a game in that space, too

Thankfully the latest one that did that to me had a "how about not" button and I retreated to normal sorting and lack of summaries

I poked my head out the back door one day and there was a moose walking down the road nearby. I did what I understood to be the wisest thing to do in such circumstances and I closed the door again

In the intro to "Prelude" he's like he didn't have much desire to return to that universe after he'd written plenty about it already but everybody wanted him to write more so he was like "fine". Not encouraging, I'll read the rest of the first book again and see where my mood takes me

If it was a while ago maybe it's tough to say, but I have an opportunity to start from the story's chronological beginning, or in the order they were written. Any recommendations either way?

The metal clasps on old sweaters are the flashpoint, unfortunately

I mean, if this is some sort of food intolerance or whatever I'll happily take the dystopian food-in-a-pill as an alternative, assuming one could have any control over what was in it. Give me the essentials so I don't have to balance local availability, price, and feeling worthwhile to eat...

Very cursory search suggests the Mercier translation is the one to avoid, published in the 1870s

How do you feel about how the series/theme progressed? Did it feel more cohesive? I felt like it was often just Asimov just off stage shouting "See? They're the clever ones! They're like me!" But maybe things bloomed a bit later on

Haha, sorry. I should have expanded before replying. Well, I'll leave it there as a reminder to myself :P

I read the first collection of short stories, usually called Foundation. It felt so distant that I passed on the rest, but I may try again

I enjoy the grandeur of this series, and it's had some genuine horror that actual horror movies lack. Not generally a fan of psi stuff though, and I miss Salvor

It might have been a distribution deal so it's easier to chicken out on those than when you're the main producer I guess. Also another TV product where I should probably read the original, preferably the one where they didn't just make stuff up in the translation

19.07.2025 08:20 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I guess this was originally going to be distributed on D+ but they dropped it? Bleah, I'd have watched it

Better invest it

Oh geez, I guess we were watching the same show there...

It makes me want to read the original stories, I guess the guy in the original just had lots of charisma

Is part of it loans? Like if they then pitch that a production will need a large effects budget then they can land a larger loan? Maybe doesn't fit the BBC model, I don't know...

@drawmanley.bsky.social You said you wished that book or type of book never stopped, but the direct market doesn't tend to get it over others, but what type of book was it? Anthology? The art's very slick but I don't know enough about comics I guess to understand what you meant

The correction engine will smooth over obvious errors in translation... except the original was slightly off on purpose, as a form of expression. Your expression was sanded down to make it more machine readable. The end result was certainly smooth, like a photograph so blurry as to be blank

We managed to uncover the original Ship of Theseus, but we were told it had aged so much it wasn't the same anymore

04.07.2025 10:11 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 3    ๐Ÿ” 2    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I don't want to upload myself but I wouldn't mind a digital ghost of me hanging out with people I've met on spaces like this. We'd sip drinks while our airship sailed over a cloudy purple planet, chasing the sunset, taking pictures of sky whales, blithering about trivialities. They'd send postcards.

More than three times New Horizons in velocity. Have there been bigger-than-a-bread-box objects at faster recorded speeds than that?

What direction did the other two visitors come from, relative to this?

I had some memory of being able to do this as a kid and then tried it again some years later and, well...

Maybe they were going easy on me the first time
