Not what I expected to find sitting on my car after Iβd cleaned it! The weather is a bit warmer today in the UK but it is only mid-February! Itβs anchor thread of silk visible in a couple of images.

Canβt see specimen but DUNNO is a bird ringerβs abbreviation for Dunnock. Parasites / flat flies collected from a dunnock, perhaps?

22.11.2024 16:05 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Sarah, you are probably correct; the first known records of Pholcus phalangioides in Britain are from the mid-19th century, believed to have arrived with wine imports from SW France. However, that trade existed in the 16thC, so not impossible the species arrived sooner, just no one looking!
