sometimes I pass by these two people on my nightly runs that warms my heart so much: a granddaughter and her vision impaired grandfather, locked arms, assisting him with park walks, with the granddaughter talking, keeping him company.

saw the sweetest family in front me of at a gig last night - they all sang, danced, and most lovingly, felt the songs that were being played. seeing things like this at gigs makes it all worth it.

There's a flowering eucalypt near me that is feasted on by lorikeets (musk and rainbow) during the day and then by the loveliest, chirpiest, flying foxes at night. It's the cutest. Thank you, tree.

A melancholy realisation as you get older is you see the growing possibility of experience that's out there that you will never have because you are on a different path. But this is also the gift of being human because it makes us learn about the limit of our own existence.

I think the only way the world gets better is if newer generations can form those connections and skills that millenials had the perfect balance of. It's almost like a duty I think unless we want to the world to crumble.

As we grow more disconnected, online, and fragmented I've been thinking more about how to give some of the offline skills we just take for granted to the newer generations. For example, bushwalking 101, attending gigs 101, or doing everything I can to stop taking and give what I love to others.

it's a very gentle exploration on coming of age whilst being lonely and choosing to make your own way with what and who you have around you.

I managed to fit in 3 gigs, a trail run, and a photo walk with a friend all whilst in Naarm. A different city, solo living, and trying to make the most of the time in a place is very life affirming and I hope everyone gets to experience moments like that this year.

All We Imagine as Light was absolutely beautiful. Such a elegant film exploring three characters and their place in their adopted city and society around them. If you like slice of life I would highly recommend this film.

loud cicadas during a hike feels like a tight hug. A feeling of insignificance in the face of nature. It's kinda reassuring even if it did hurt my ears for a bit 😅

I wish people would understand how much exploitation actually occurs in Sydney (and Australia) for many new visitors, residents, and students. Visa scams, fake shell companies for sponsorship, employers exploiting the desperation of others for cheap off the books labour.

Just watched black dog (2024) a few days ago. Hauntingly beautiful. It's one of those movies that you just go with the flow with and take in the cinematography, the emotion, and the setting. Something about a decrepit zoo just makes me tear up, too.

Just lament over how many younger folks will never get to experience the joy of film by being driven away from the price. Again, this was always the case and deals can still be had now but it's just crazy with how the prices are going.

With commodification, resellers are buying cameras from any place and selling them at crazy prices. The average point and shoot is like $150 now when I know they could be had for less than $50 a few years ago. This seems wrong. Yes yes, market prices etc. But now, the bar to entry is so high

It was always something that was an expensive hobby compared to most due to the cost of dev and scan but I feel like most could still make it work. But now, it seems like such a commodity. 2/n

I'm trying to figure out how I feel about film photography at the moment. With its meteoric rise, it's harder than ever for the average punter to actually pick up a good deal on a camera because all the resellers are driving up the prices. Film is getting more expensive as well. 1/n

We know that black rock as one private equity firm is responsible for so much enshittification. How long until this is what Vanguard does as well? With so many regular investors backing VG, where does that leave us with ethical investing?

One thing I think should be more widespread in awareness is the idea that *consumption at what cost*. Consumption, especially in the western world, is at the cost of someone else's suffering and exploitation 99% of the time.

Response to 'Hyper-Individualism, Overconsumption, & The Downfall of Society': I'm now left wondering if the whole idea of "just do X thing as we have no hope in the future of the world" is now morphed and utilised by companies to justify consumption.

look, i have no qualms with folks who choose to do drugs recreationally. but lately, i've been feeling increasingly uneasy at how much of a criminal underbelly it supports which begets further violence, dark activities, and pain. until de-criminalisation occurs, there's no moral ground.

i really liked this video essay about the notion "hobbies are so cringe". I know some of this can be hyperbole but I feel like being terminally online is making the very magic of being on the internet and sharing cool stuff just not fun any more.

#gigmoment A group of around 8 young folks come in for the 2nd set at #foundry616: jan. - a heavy post-hardcore/midwest emo band. They appear to be here for kick ons. Adorably, they dance in their own unique way as the set gets heavier and even participate in the mosh! So cute!

TIL about Fuji Frontier scanners being subjectively better for colour film scans vs Noritsu. Fuji seems to be more contrasty and vibrant whereas Noritsu is slightly flatter and neutral. Pretty sure Super8 in Sydney uses Fuji scanners.
