I have this problem with plus size indie pattern makers, who seem to all provide lovingly graded instructions for how to make boxy linen shirt and wide leg flowy linen pants. or sometimes thoroughly shapeless linen sack dress! doesn't at least one of you sew clothes I want to wear ☹️

she's not being made to suffer and gently mocked but also helped by her colleagues. watching her do challenging things more or less alone and not under a time crunch is just not as satisfying!

I would choose a hobby that let me be my whole self, and I imagine a lot of gay teens are doing the same thing. so while I'm sure there has been at least one closeted NHL player, there's not nearly as many as that person seems to think from looking at the percentage in society as a whole

or: stay home and find another dream. *other* groups of 14yos aren't in that pressure cooker, lord of the flies-type environment, and even if they do find out you're gay, will be cool about it (obvs the drama kids, but even the mathletes, or some sports!).

happens to be good at hockey, your choices are to leave your family and any friends outside of hockey you have, to go play high-level hockey with a bunch of guys who you *know* it isn't safe to come out to, and in fact you have to hide it bc if they find out, there will *definitely* be hell to pay,

dedicated their entire lives to hockey, including leaving their families of origin. the only people they know here are on the team, and any time people feel tenuous in the social structure, they have a tendency to punch down to elevate themselves. especially at 14yo.
