Recompiled has a stronger case (it's largely the same game underneath, just more technically polished), but the amount of "Sonic 06 fans" who have only played P-06 is insane. I don't think the average "06 fan" could actually handle playing just one story in full on vanilla, disc 06 on PS3 or 360

like, I get that modern SEGA is too safe and samey, and I understand that 1998-2008 was a decade of experimentation for the franchise, so that's why it's so fondly remembered

but I really, REALLY wish fans would stop mistaking Unleashed Recompiled and Sonic P-06 as the originals; they're not!

like I don't think it's wrong to say that Unleashed and 06 felt ambitious in ways that few games since have felt (Frontiers and ShadowGens still fall a little short of this imho), but I don't think we need to be lying to ourselves that either of these games are particularly amazing in spite of that

I think realistically, most newer Sonic fans aren't really invested in the quality of these games, but instead are looking for SEGA to start taking risks and having greater ambitions again

which is understandable, I just wish we didn't confuse that with "this game is the greatest game ever made"

'06 has really good level design and music that really need to be ported to another game entirely to be enjoyed, but Unleashed's levels are also still best when ported to Generations, so make of that what you will

like, okay, the 2010 praise for Colors is retrospectively a bit much; it's not amazing, but it's still a really solid game, just a bit repetitive and very short

Unleashed has a strong foundation, but the werehog stages are not fun and the daytime stages are really messy and rough around the edges

the switch-ups on Unleashed and Colors need to be studied. what the fuck HAPPENED

we live in a timeline with 06 glazers now and I have to just imagine that the newer generation of Sonic fans have not played any of these games on real hardware
