What a week! Full of learning, new ideas, and inspiring conversations. I met so many brilliant and kind people, and Iโ€™m leaving with fresh perspectives. Thanks @nitmb.bsky.social

Multielectrode arrays can be used to investigate electric activity (field potential duration, conduction velocity, arrhythmic substrates, etc.) in cardiac tissue and cells. Useful to investigate the effect of diseases and drugs. ๐Ÿงช

Perfectly put, we are not a jar of organs. We are a prime example of the saying "the whole is more than the sum of its parts". In out lab we have now data indicating not only a gut-heart axis but also a gut-brain-heart axis. We hope to publish this findings by the end of the year

Ever wondered about the heart-gut connection in inflammatory bowel disease? Our brand new paper reveals insights into atrial electrophysiology changes during active ulcerative colitis that may explain the higher risk of arrhythmias in IBD patients.

Calcium imaging in cardiomyocytes is a method used to measure intracellular calcium levels and assess calcium dynamics. It is a powerful tool for investigating the effects of diseases and drugs on cardiac electrophysiology and contraction, providing insights into the mechanisms of arrhythmias.

Studies have shown that both IBDs increases the propensity for arrhythmia, hypertension, etc. Specially during the flare ups. But, in patients, it's difficult to know the exact cause (confounders). It's good you have been monitoring it with a doctor. Only them can provide diagnose and treatment.

Curitiba, Brazil, offers another compelling example of the benefits of going car free. In the 1970s, Mayor Jaime Lerner defied local business owners by pedestrianizing XV de Novembro street. Contrary to their fears that it would harm their businesses, the opposite occurred. Business thrived!

Honestly, it puzzles me why that stretch of Lincoln Ave isn't permanently closed to cars. It is a small gem of an area that would greatly benefit from being car free.

Next I'll try to reproduce results from a paper published by Stephen Lipius group (don't know if you met him at loyola) where acetylcholine elicits a rebound stimulation of calcium current. That will be a little harder, I think!
