When the prompting stops: exploring teachersโ€™ work around the educational frailties of generative AI tools Teachers are now encouraged to use generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) tools to complete various school-related administrative tasks, with the promise of saving considerable amounts of time ...

To wit: www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....

"In particular, it focuses on the large amounts of work that teachers put into reviewing, repairing and sometimes completely reworking AI-produced outputs that they perceive to be deficient. "

Decades ago, historians of domestic technology showed how the devices that were supposedly going to save time created more work for housewives.

This is absolutely the trajectory of AI in education.

I'll say it again, as this is ramping up: if you gave access to the archives of goverment data and information, it is your moral responsibility to make sure that untouched versions get preserved, now. There are people worh archival expertise who can help you, if you don't have it yourself. Start now

Meanwhile, here in Maine, AI crawlers have rendered the server that manages our statewide interlibrary loan unreachable by legitimate attempts to pass through requests/information

Again, but louder: the server canโ€™t be reached by libraries and the folks trying to use them BECAUSE OF AI CRAWLERS.

Thisโ€”and, it gives them the ability to control it without paying or respecting the people who produced the expertise.

Oh look, ICE is copying literal Nazi recruiting propaganda again. The poster on the right is for the Volkssturm, the Nazi militia of older men and boys established during the final months of World War II.

#OpEd: "We must recognize the prison industry for what it is: an industry built on the human suffering of crime victims, incarcerated people, their families, and still others." Read the full story on how the prison industry became worth over $80 billion a year.

Seems like it might be worth talking to him?

Labour's slow, sure

Home secretary Yvette Cooper's hard graft on the small boat crisis has to be seen to be working (AFP/Getty)

Maybe everyone can agree on one thing: if stopping the boats was easy, it would have been done by now. Whether the home secretary, Yvette Cooper, ever deluded herself otherwise, a year of only limited progress in the government's mission to "smash the gangs" must have brought home to her just how intractable irregular migration is.

Just the same as Brexit, in fact, when he also made extravagant claims about how it would solve our economic problems, and then blamed everyone else when it left the nation impoverished. Now he's blaming the migrants rather than Brussels, and his policies - little more than slogans - should be treated with extreme caution.
Leaving the ECHR, for example - which he used to call "Brexit 2.0" before Brexit 1.0 turned out to be a flop - wouldn't change a thing over in Calais.

The far right will never fix anything. Ever. We shouldnโ€™t need to learn that lesson again.

โ€œItโ€™s not that the remedies offered by Farage, Rupert Lowe, various fascists and some Conservatives are cruel and morally shameful, which they are, but that they are impractical and costlyโ€

This interview is so clear & quietly devastating. Public media as we understand it is over.

This is not about the end of NPR & PBS. They might be able to find ways to continue to make programs. Instead of content, this is about the capacity to broadcast at all - antennae, transmitters, licenses. ๐Ÿงต

Yep.

This is good, but not enough coverage is pointing out what they're covering up:

1) Trump lied abt Venezuela's ties to TdA
2) So he could deport 200 men
3) Bc of their tattoos
4) To a concentration camp
5) Where they were tortured
6) As part of quid pro quo to cover up Bukele's ties to MS13

That the modern manosphere is heavily shaped by now divorced Gen X/Xennial guys angry specifically because it became socially unacceptable to behave how they did in the 90's without consequence should be example enough regarding what the culture was actually like back then.

You couldnโ€™t turn on basic cable without a deluge of Girls Gone Wild commercials.

A quick scan of womenโ€™s music from the 90s would be revelatory. TLCโ€™s music was a counternarrative. Lilith Fair existed for a reason. What was Riot Grrl was rioting against? Queen Latifah gave us a whole anthem.

Anyone talking about the 90s like it was a feminist haven free of a manosphere has clearly forgotten about what the 90s was actually like or never bothered to study it

Those of us who do study the 90s can point to the fact that anti-affirmative action backlash was a studied project of the right that got laundered by venues like the NYT just as anti-trans stuff is today, eg:
