I do think it’s telling to observe WHO thinks they “need” more exposure to people with very different opinions from their own.

A lot of people on this website get plenty of “alternative” opinions on their humanity and equality by the simple expedient of just walking around outside.

Besides, Fall Guys creator Joe Walsh just announced his new studio and it's got several other ex-Mediatonic folks involved, so it's not like there won't be an alternative option in the foreseeable future. 😝

I don't even play Fortnite anymore, but I'll quit Fall Guys if this turns out to be the case. Not that I've spent any actual money on it in a long, long time, but still, this makes me not want to play anything Epic's involved with.

Also find it kind of funny Florence released a record co-produced by Dessner after appearing on Taylor's album last year, and she mentions listening to The 1975 on "Music By Men", probably just coincidences, nothing more than that. 🤔

Finally giving this a second listen, and while I'm still not really vibing with the first two songs, the rest of it's clicking with me more, and maybe it's just because I now know Dessner was involved that I'm hearing his influence more clearly (especially on "Perfume and Milk" and "Buckle").

So I decided to try all four of those community project contributions, and played a few maps from the collaborative megawad (the text file doesn't say which authors worked on which maps), and none of them are Monti-esque at all. Most are compact with a small number of difficult enemies.

I looked up the map's author on Doomworld and it doesn't appear he ever uploaded the project this was meant for, he's got credits in 4 community projects and a megawad with a co-author, all between 2017-18. Guess imitating Monti didn't work out in the long run!

That said, the progression in this map is way more straightforward, because no matter how much someone might try to imitate Monti, no one thinks like Monti when it comes to level design so an imitation will never replicate the bizarre, often incomprehensible internal logic of his maps.

YouTube recommended me a 9-year-old video of a guy playing various Doom WADs and the first one is modeled after Nicolas Monti's work, and... why? Why would anyone do that?

My recs also included a video about sombr and while I haven't watched it yet, what I'm gathering from Googling is that he's trying to pull some Jim Morrison shit despite (a) living in a day and age where that doesn't fly anymore, and (b) not being a big enough star to actually get away with it.

Also its approach to saves is better, it keeps saves separate for individual WADs instead of just having one massive list (a flaw the Kex port shares with GZDoom), and it displays the save slot lists in a way that looks like the original Doom interface so that's fun.

Played through the first six maps of Nostalgia again just to test some things out and overall I think I prefer the way everything feels in DSDA Doom to the GZDoom approach, it's much closer to the "classic" look and feel overall while still having modern amenities like higher resolutions/widescreen.

Plus it has the extended HUD that shows kills, items, and secrets as part of the source port itself, I've been running a GZDoom mod for this but I prefer the look of the DSDA Doom version.

The only issue I've noticed is that the automap display is a little wonky, lines sometimes flicker and/or disappear from it, but I also like the automap color options and having the option to either show or hide secrets on the map before you've found them.

Also the launcher lets you add WADs from any directory, and while the GZ/UZDoom launchers have this functionality I like how it's implemented here better.

The build I compiled seemed to be running fine, but it was only detecting and launching the Doom II IWAD by default so I was trying to find out how to switch without having to use command line arguments every time and stumbled onto the launcher. I had no idea this existed for MacOS!

This messing around led to me also installing DSDA Doom, I tried building it myself because I'd previously tried what was supposed to be a simple-to-install Mac binary that just didn't fucking work. Then I found someone's made a launcher that also installs it for you.

Anyway, MAP04 has 203 enemies on HMP, so I'm not doing that tonight. 😅

I don't know why but I decided to play through the first few maps in Dominus Diabolicus 2 again in UZDoom, and I'd forgotten just how nasty a couple of the fights in MAP03 are. Mostly the one in the green key area with the SSG guys and the Revenants, it's absolutely brutal.

I'm guessing reissues with weird tagging are the reason Dark Side Of The Moon's there twice?

Played the Vampire Survivors update, and I feel bad for anyone trying to play this on an original Switch because I was getting single-digit framerates at times on Switch 2 with my ludicrously OP Sigma builds.

Haven't encountered anything quite like that yet but I'm getting tons of ads for AI video generation tools and it's starting to get on my nerves.

Just got a call from work, a patient who discharged today was taken to the wrong address by transportation so I had to sort that out. And the "correct" address we had was also wrong, so that's fun! 🙃
