31.10.2025 07:54 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0$11.5 billion. That's how much Australia's teachers contribute in unpaid labour every year.
Our teachers are overworked, undervalued and facing increasingly difficult and unsafe classroom conditions.
It's no wonder they're abandoning the profession in droves. #WorldTeachersDay
get in losers, we're doing 2008 again but with graphics cards instead of houses

So youโre doing better than me! ๐
In order to reduce inequality, education systems seem to want to do anything except actually fund schools and teachers.
Itโs just so depressing.

And itโs *so* freaking hard to unlearn. ๐
Weird Alโs parody of this - I Want a New Duck - also slaps.

29.10.2025 01:34 โ ๐ 25 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0The AI industry wants us to believe AI superintelligence is the real threat from generative AI.
But that narrative was crafted to distract from the many ways genAI is being used to tear our societies apart, as we saw this week when a deepfake video rocked the Irish election. It must be reined in.
A hard truth is that the search for artificial general intelligence as a commercial tool is fundamentally a reproduction of slavery. Not because computers are people or anything so silly, but because of the impetus: To acquire the products of humanity without the need for a human to consent.

I just want the tech grifters who completely misread their favourite sci-fi then whip each other into delusional GenAI ketamine fuelled fantasies as they wet themselves at the thought of Rokoโs basilisk to be launched into the sun.
โฆthat they want to keep others out.
Maybe it comes from having lived, and enjoyed living, in different countries but never truly fitting in. Not sure.
Thoroughly bored by mainstream โimmigration debatesโ though - nothing youโve said, mind!
No idea how long my Scottish & British ancestors have been here (4 generations, maybe?) My wife is Spanish. We have 2 kids born in Beijing and 2 born in Barcelona, we currently live in NSW. Connections all over the place.
I only vaguely understand how people can feel so connected to a small place

27.10.2025 00:39 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Built using stolen data, insane energy requirements and predatory marketing. Tech in schools needs to be adopted *very* carefully to avoid damaging teaching and learning and to avoid exacerbating exisiting inequalities
27.10.2025 00:36 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Fair enough. I might push gently back on โno connectionโ for immigrants - at least for first generation.
I also knew a number of Brits & Aussies in E and SE Asia with no intention of returning who referred to themselves as expats.
We just donโt like to refer to ourselves as migrants/immigrants.
It wonโt disappoint. My fave of all time.

Iโll never use them. As yet, no one has understood how serious I am about this.

26.10.2025 06:53 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Actually, itโs worse. Itโs only mandatory for a year in Stage 4 (Years 7/8) and very few choose it as an elective after that (if itโs available - we also lack teachers).

Iโve also heard Aussies living in the UK use it to refer to themselves.
