As a black woman in charge she could call the shots and navigate away from a rush to judgement based on stereotypes therefore missing the true motives and the perpetrators of the crime.

It showed these in a realistic way and did not try to hijack the putpose of the show which is about solving crime with an agenda to solve systemic issues like racism and misogyny. Instead it focused on the DCI’s ability to do her job and do it well…
