This past year I was a judge for the world fantasy award, so I was reading all the fantasy books published in 2024. One of the things we had a hard time with was finding a book that was not part of a series, that could be judged on its own.

Boston is GREAT.

I'm seeing people lamenting Mamdani's win because he'll ruin the "greatest city in the world."

Really?

The greatest city in the WORLD? You know that the Schuyler Sisters didn't even think that, right?

I'm sorry, NYC is fine, but it's not even in my personal top five!

HA! I was literally thinking about that! The dog version was called Cesar, and my in-laws did indeed serve it to their two tiny poodles on people plates . . . but just everyday dishes, not the crystal!

Eating it with a fork off of a plate somehow seems so wrong.

Well, I'm back from World Fantasy! I have terrible chest congestion- I am prone to catarrh, much like Cyril in To Say Nothing of the Dog- but I had an amazing time traveling the UK with my sister, meeting most of my fellow judges in person, and buying so many books I had to BUY A SUITCASE.

My favorite anecdote was when The Far Side ran this cartoon. The Jane Goodall Institute was NOT amused, and threatened litigation, until it found out that Jane Goodall herself had seen the cartoon and thought it was hilarious.

My husband is there right now and I asked him to please take a picture of that from every angle for me!

My middle child’s blood is probably 90% vanilla Coke. Also, somehow my most normal child was called “the demon baby” before his birth because while I was pregnant I was in a car accident, fell on the ice and broke a rib and had the flu twice!

Why am I telling you this now?
