Really incredible story unraveling in this thread, where Amazon and other sites have seemingly been able to sell an academic textbook that was withdrawn in 2021 and never actually printed or published, without the knowledge of the press, editors or contributors. Something has gone deeply wrong!

By the mid-1930s, Mary Dawson Elwell had emerged on the British art scene as a painter of interiors, or more strictly, 'portrait interiors,' she described these works as ones in which the sitters are 'often as subsidiary to the whole effect as some other object in the room.'

There's a great double bill on iPlayer; Michael Powell's hebridean melodrama The Edge of the World, followed by retrospective documentary Return to the Edge of the World, featuring some lovely footage of John Laurie and Michael Powell returning to the island of Foula to reconnect with the community.

Council sets out vision for 'fairer' housing market as Right to Buy conversation continues Leeds City Council has added its voice to the national conversation about plans for the reform of England’s Right to Buy housing scheme.

In Leeds, we are calling for a cessation of sales of council owned homes via Right To Buy, and a wholly reformed toolkit for local authorities to rebuild housing stock to levels that can support the many thousands in need of decent and secure socially rented homes.

That's really it.

Alice and Martin Provensen - cover artwork for The Fireside Cook Book (1949). The work they did for this particular cook book was astounding. Here, in this thread, I'll post original full color pieces - all done in gouache - that were featured in the book. #wardsmorguefile 1/7

Delighted and quite astonished to see that BBCFour begins screening Cyril Aldred’s documentary series, TUTANKHAMUN’S EGYPT, next week. Made to accompany the British Museum’s 1972 TREASURES OF TUTANKHAMUN exhibition, the 13x20min episodes haven’t been seen since their original broadcast. #Egyptomania

I can’t get over how cartoonishly evil this is

putting in your fucking β€œhate speech” policy that a particular kind of hate speech against a particular group of people is explicitly allowed - and therefore encouraged - is the kind of shit that should be done from a volcano lair with a shark moat
