DSM diagnoses have criteria A through whatever, maybe A-F, A-G, etc. It is commonplace for clinicians to completely discard criteria B - whatever, as if A is sufficient. It is deeply troubling. It is unethical. It is absolutely nothing short of malpractice.

A good therapist won’t tell you how, they’ll help you understand what stops you from and interferes with you doing it. They’ll help you work through those things in an experiential way through your current relationships.

We think of school as about knowing, but it is about learning how to learn. It is ontological more than epistemological. We come to know in the process of learning to learn, but we end up not knowing more then we know. PhDs then, don’t “know everything,” so much as they expertly know how to learn.
