Day 20, Tattoo, the only one that will be on time lol

I've played with the idea of Belaufein tattooing over the neck scar post epilogue.

It's been a constant reminder of the abuse he suffered. Being able to cover it with something he chose himself would be... powerful, I think.

She talks about Belaufein like a proud grandmother and judges other party members by whether they've been nice to Her Boy, and will primly shit talk the ones who haven't.

Her biggest wisdom is if you're attacked by a big spider you should run up someone's pant leg because the spiders don't fit.

Lol Belaufein is gonna be hovering the whole time nervous for her safety but being nice to Zav'dos is ultimately how one wins him over.

Zav'dos meanwhile is totally unbothered by anything that's happening and is enjoying some banana bits.

She does tricks! Her name means "clever you," a phrase for seeing an animal (or small child) do something mildly impressive! She is Belaufein's last remaining tether to sanity!

Day#8: Age

I mean, really he's not even 50 yet, but the mileage is so high that he's starting to break down. That's part of his crisis from back in "Self Image." If the job doesn't kill him before he has to stop, he might yet live a long while with the consequences.

In theory he's channeling all this into something useful, even necessary, and giving the others the chance to do that as well. In practice... there's been some nasty business. Very nasty indeed. Scorched earth. Salted fields. Objectives pursued without regard for collateral damage. Brr.

He would call it ruthlessness, pragmatism, maybe necessary evil on occasion. The fact is that he likes to kill, and he's good at it.

He would, as tvtropes puts it, Shoot The Dog, and lose no sleep over it.

Being a sword for hire, he hasn't always been on the right side of conflicts either.

His comes with an occasional dose of actual sadism. He doesn't really internally acknowledge the extent to which he's tempted to twist the knife, nor how often he gives in to that temptation.

If you hurt somebody and it feels like justice, that isn't proof that you were right.

Day#7: Dark Side

Oh boy.

Listen, this guy has been a mercenary for 30-ish years. He has lived by the sword. He has done some THINGS. And, he's been in a leadership position where he caused other people to do some Things.

Vengeance paladin is of course going to have a vindictive streak...

He doesn't know, and has never reckoned with it because he never thought he'd get here.

But now he's staring it in the face, and for once, he doesn't really have a plan. He made his peace with dying young. Getting old seems a lot more daunting in comparison.

As the rest of the party levels up, he feels himself slowing down. Eventually he isn't going to be able to swing that hammer anymore without throwing his back out, and he's running out of chances to die in battle like he always figured he would.

Years and years of injuries are starting to stack up. He's taken some blows to the head that he's starting to realize he never fully came back from. His DEX is shot because every joint he has is stiff. He can carry on for now, but its getting harder and harder.

Day #6: Self-Image

His self image is actually pretty threatened as of the beginning of the game!

He's been a warrior for most of his life, he's built a career around fighting, its all he's done for decades. But, he's reaching a point where pretty soon he won't be able to do it anymore.

Proud, fierce and regal, she is very much the ruler of her house. But she's a good one. Probably the best you'll ever find.

If she offers you assistance there is no requirement that you first change in ways you aren't ready for. She's willing to meet people where they are. She will help the imperfect victim.

Instead of "free mom hugs" its "free mom Kill Anyone Who Hurts You." Its not warm, but it's substantial.

She's a great example of someone who often says the wrong things but almost always does the right ones.

For example: one of her kids is trans? She doesn't totally get it, but gives him a new name that means "beloved son." That should tell you everything about Lael'breen.

And, she never totally integrated into Imberlur. She just can't totally get behind the openness that's expected. Hers will forever be the only house in town where all the doors lock. It's one more way Alakil is forever in between two worlds.

She was pretty disillusioned with Lolth by the time she started to get involved with both Eilistraean and Vhaeraunan sects. How that went down could be 30 more posts-- her affinity for both of them in different ways, her synthesis of their values, her relationships on both sides...
