Made a new draft in ellipsus to see what happens if Astarion is the one who confronts Dal about Gloria's memory loss of him, and, well, it's going about as well as I'd expect!
Astarion also likes Gloria romantically but Gloria chose Dal. The angst. The anger. Chefs kiss

Reminder that Firearms existed in Medieval Europe before full plate armour.

If you've got a medieval-fantasy setting that features plate armour, it is absolutely NOT immersion-breaking to include early firearms.

Dal's stubbornness will keep Auggie on his toes, but hopefully in a good way. At least for us writers ehehe

Have small, low-stakes, simple activities to do that bring joy to herself or both of them.

He'd even offer his home as a place to decompress if she really needs it, and himself as someone nonjudgemental to vent to.

He'd tell her not to neglect her needs, which is of course difficult when trying to focus on someone else's. He's fond of the phrase "You can't pour from an empty cup." (I'll come up with a drow equivalent later hehe.) He'd say it's not selfish to care for yourself if going without makes it

I feel like Courage might already have these in mind, but, that's what he'd offer :3

He'd say backslides into old thoughts or feelings or behaviors can and will happen, and being a soft, safe place to return to is the best option even when it feels like just returning to a stable middle ground rather than moving forward.

Nil would say she's doing a whole lot right already.
He'd say patience is key (though that's easier to say for someone who'll live centuries). And he'd say when progress seems slow, remember that Acheron is here, and that means he's already better off than he was before.

EGGS!! Though, to be fair, he's mildly allergic anyway. He's understandably biased.

He also tends not to enjoy the texture of flaky white fish.

I wouldn't say sweets disgust him, but I do joke that he has the opposite of a sweet tooth.

It definitely complicates things for a while. Dal's happy and sad and even angry that Nil's alive, for various reasons.

But eventually they do patch things up! They do become close again, and Nil is instrumental in helping Dal adjust to being on the Surface :)

But the logic of the situation doesn't stop it from being painful, knowing his older brother and best friend willingly left him behind and has been living a "better" life without him. For 170 years.

Yeah. Heartbroken is a good way to describe it. In the moment, it feels like it'll end him.

That Nilaufein left Menzoberranzan and left him behind, and never came back.

Dal knows *why*--He never would have gone with Nilaufein willingly, being too deep in Lolthite cult-think already. Nil couldn't risk it. And if he'd come back to get Dal later, he might've been killed.

I think Dal genuinely had his heart broken when he first reunited with Nilaufein.

When he realized that his favorite brother, the brother he thought dead, the brother he killed their eldest brother for mocking the death of, was alive, and well, and never told him.
