I study nature and cities and how they're changing over time. A lotta birds, community science data, responses of wildlife to urban greening, and historical ecology. smsfrn.github.io

Yeah no specimens from within the city since the 20s, though apparently some still around in the 60s? I was curious which territory/individual the detection came from (Glen Canyon? A transient?). Would be really interesting to back track if it happened to be a collared individual!

This is from 2021 but never had any coverage. We used old maps to quantify losses of freshwater wetlands in California since European-American colonization and the resulting change in the flow of energy to the aquatic food web (spoiler: it’s declined by almost 95% 😳).

Where can I see new birds? Mostly Arizona, apparently!

Fun little project using eBird's Status & Trends data to map someone's potential lifers.

Christmas Bird Count planning! Pulled recent sightings from our circle from eBird and plotted to share with participants ahead of count.

Let me know if you want the code or for me to make one for your circle!
