The minimum income requirement already constrains the right to a family life in the UK for many UK citizens. β€œSure you can live with your non-UK spouse and dual national children - just not in the UK”

I’m as fond of a neologism as the next woman but I wonder whether β€œwinningest” is really going to catch on

The film "Ballon" was a fascinating representation of the story you linked.

It feels a long time ago now, but I was already 19 when the wall fell, and my childhood "Ausgangslage" was of people not being able to travel. Still, even now, it's shocking what means were used to keep people in.

Is there any indication where that is? I think Ladybird authors didn't tend to make things up, but that double choir? is rather unusual.

Beautiful work, as ever

Ignores the fact that you can dislike (or disagree with) the substance but still want to see similar posts. The dislike button isn’t the problem; the subsequent logic is. Some of us actively seek out a range of opinions.

Our village voted 3 years ago to ban fireworks, and an increasing number of others in CH have done the same. Quite something, given we’re a tourist resort.

Art 9 says EU citizenship is additional to national citizenship, leaving a space, had the EU chosen to use it, to grant a finite cohort of people the same rights they had actively embodied. Instead β€œEU citizenship” proved to be merely a pretty term with no substance, which I feel diminishes the EU

Granted the EU wasn’t to know from the outset how little the UK govt would care for its citizens abroad - FFS it was left to volunteers to fight that corner - but the EU also hung British (at the time) EU citizens out to dry even when it became clear they weren’t useful leverage against the UK gov

I think what I found most disappointing about the EU’s stance was that UK citizens who exercised free movement embodied the spirit of EU citizenship more than the majority of current EU citizens (and of course the majority of UK citizens pre-Brexit).

I suspect there’s still dialectal use. I’ve definitely heard β€œthey’re gone shopping” and of course β€œI was sat there” (instead of β€œsitting”) is the stuff of debate

One of my treasured memories is watching Casablanca in the big screen. Obv not Hitchcock, but such an experience and how the film was designed to be seen
